The city has seen rapid growth since 2000 with over 1 million residents moving into east metro neighborhoods since then including areas such as Buckhead and Midtown Fulton County reached record levels during that time period[5][6]. These recent expansions have led to increased traffic congestion on I-285 which regularly blocks streets surrounding downtown from becoming pedestrian walksable due to towering office buildings located nearby
