In 1906-07, East Point hosted the first national championship game in American football between Vanderbilt University and Sewanee Tigers. That year also saw construction begin on Yankee Stadium in nearby Cobb County; that stadium would be completed in 1923 and renamed Braves Park after Atlanta's major league baseball team (the Boston Red Sox). In 1942-43 during World War II, East Point served as the site of two naval airfields: Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Air Station Brunswick. Afterward, it reverted back to its pre-war form as a small community with relatively few residents until the early 21st century when growth began to anew push eastward into waterfront properties along Atlantica Avenue which had been undeveloped for decades following Atlantica's incorporation into city limits in 1916 due to strategic advantages resulting from its location near both rail lines running through downtown Atlanta and adjacent farmland on one side of town while MARTA Railroad runs directly through its other side providing easy access to downtownAtlanta from all directions

East Point is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent European colonists arrived in 1764 and founded East Point on the east bank of the Chattahoochee River, about 17 miles (27 km) north of downtown Atlanta. The community grew rapidly during the antebellum period as cotton plantations were established along the river and local farmers produced crops such as peanuts, corn, peas and beans. With their industry came social tensions between slaveowners and free labor workers that led to violence and several assaults on white men in 1837. In 1865, after Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, most blacks were emancipated by Union troops; however some residents still remained slaves until 1954 when they were finally given full citizenship. During World War II many soldiers from East Point enlisted with General George Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment who fought at Battle of Little Bighorn in Wyoming; many are buried there today. After the war ended most locals left for good but a few stayed to form a nucleus around which new businesses developed including software companies such as Microsoft and Apple Computer Inc., pharmacies like Walgreens Grains & More Inc., restaurant chains like Denny's BBQ & Grill Inc., Ford dealership locations etc.; although some have since closed down or been sold off to other businesses
East Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. East Point sits on the eastern edge of metro Atlanta and is bordered by Druid Hills to the north, Midtown to the east and west, and Sandy Springs to the south. The CDP includes parts of bothAtlanta's inner city neighborhoods - including Centennial Olympic Park to the northwest - as well as more suburban residential areas located within its borders.
