In 1905 Mayor Wm. Ewing organized the first election for mayor in Cobb County; James Ahern won with over 89% of the vote. In 1915 East Point was annexed by Atlanta as part of plans to make more efficient use of Cobb County's limited land supply. At that time its estimated population was 6,000 people but only 1,715 lived in EastPoint proper; most residents lived in surrounding townships and villages within Cobb County or commute to work in Atlanta every day. To accommodate growth during World War II many homes were built outside of town limits - including one house on US 301 that still stands today as one of downtown's earliest icons! After the war many businesses closed down while others migrated away from rural Cobb County for suburban surroundings – some even moving into what is now known as " ghost towns". However over time some businesses have resurrected such as The Pirates Bar & Grill which reopened after being closed for years due to code violations! Today there are few traces remaining from days when East Point struggled economically – although there are still several primary schools and public works facilities across town that date back to those early days including: Grady High School (established 1865), Holmes Bible Institute (founded 1913), Nineveh Baptist Church (1872), First Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1892), Cherokee Baptist Church (1895), Our Lady Of Nazareth Catholic church/ services/ school(1898) – allindergated since 1967 thanks to donations from local citizens! Residents enjoy access to tennis Courts at Grady High School which continue to be popular among students during lunchtime even though locker rooms have been added inside!

In 1826, East Point became a port on the Savannah River and soon became one of the most important commercial centers onthe river. By 1840, however, East Point's fortunes had changed significantly due to its location on navigable waterwaysand its strategic position as a transportation hub for goods moving between interior Georgiaand coastal Florida. From this point forward, East Pointvoted increasingly with Democrats in statewide elections and developed into one of Atlantas most influential political subdivisions during Reconstruction. During World War II, EastPoint played an important role as an airfield for both United StatesAAF Ninth Air Force and RAF Liberator operations against Axis forces in North Africa and Italy; as well as providing munitions storage facilities for general Patton's Third Army during their invasions of Sicily and Naples; and later becoming home to Eighth Air Force headquarters during Operation Overlord (Normandy). Although damage from Allied bombing raids throughout 1945 destroyed much of what remainedof EastPoint's original cityscape- including most of its iconic cotton plantation buildings- virtually allof its remaining residential neighborhoods remain extant today within walking distance eitherof downtown Atlanta or Monterrey Beach Resort & Spa which overlooks Savannah Harbor
