East Point is a small town in Gwinnett County, Georgia. It is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Atlanta and 2 miles (3 km) west of the Alabama state line. In 1835, the Chickasaw Indians attacked East Point and burned all the buildings except one which houses today's United States Post Office building. However, this attack did not kill any settlers nor did it damage any property; rather, it served only to traumatize many of them and make them more determined to fight against Indian attacks. In 1865, after several years of negotiation and war with the Creek Nation led by General Andrew Jackson, Georgia acquired title to all of Cherokee Nation east of the Mississippi River from Spain. This event made possible development along both sides of the Chattahoochee River where land could be bought or leased at low cost and developed into cotton plantations such as those near present-day Atlanta

It was platted in 1833 by James Easton and his brother John Easton. The name of the town honor General George Washington's military campaign against Native American forces in 1780. The first store in East Point opened its doors in 1835. In 1840, the first school was built and operated by Mrs. Elizabeth Hargrave. A two-story log courthouse was completed in 1847 and served as the village's government center until 1865 when a new frame courthouse replaced it. In 1870, a canal linking the Chattahoochee River with Peachtree City became available and East Point began to grow rapidly as an agricultural community; within ten years, most of what is now east side of town had been developed . In 1886, Elisha Wheatley donated land for a primary school which became known as Wheatley Elementary School today . In 1907, an addition to the original elementary school building (now known as Checkered Hall)was added for use by high school students . In 1975, after more than fifty years of continuous growth and development on east side of town (now east side High School), construction began on what is now called "The World Trade Center" campus which would become one of Fulton County's premier commercial areas . The project went through many iterations over several decades including but not limited to: demolition of buildings that were too old or structurally unsound; replacement of century-old infrastructure with modern materials;and extensive rehabilitation/updates to both single-family dwellings (houses & apartments) as well as multi-family structures (condos). Today there are more than 400 businesses headquartered at "The WTC." On September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks, almost all people living within five blocks radius died when two planes crashed into One World Trade Center towers - nearly three quarters of all human fatalities during that time period! In response to this tragedy, many individuals came together to rebuild their lives – starting with East Point residents who immediately started rebuilding their schools and businesses which had been destroyed or damaged during 9/11/01. Ever since then, rebuilt homes have become fixtures on eastern sideHigh School property line where they sit proudly alongside their original architecture – testament to how hard these families have worked Furthermore local business owners have seen their profits triple from just before 9/11th 2001 through 2006 alone!

East Point was a small, rural community in Cherokee County, Georgia. It was founded in 1824 by Captain John Troup of the United States Army as an outpost on the Chattahoochee River. In 1827, East Point became the county seat of Cherokee County. The community declined after it moved to other locations in Cherokee County and within Georgia.
