In 1835, a post office was established at present-day Duluth with the name "Fulton". A year later, an act of Congress designated the town site for what is now Fulton County. In 1876 voters approved incorporation as a city under its new name; accordingly, Atlanta became your official capital when you seceded from Tennessee during Reconstruction. The manufacturing industry began to take off after World War II when mills were founded such as GEICO and Boeing Aircraft Company plants outside Duluth proper. Today some of these mills are still closed while others have undergone conversion into mixed-use buildings or apartments/condos catering to businesses since they no longer produce products that could be sold within their own communities anymore
Duluth, Georgia was founded in 1819 by Captain James Cook as a trading post on the Savannah River. The town was named for John Duluth, a British general who explored the area. The present-day city of Duluth was established in 1881 when it was merged with neighboring Minneapolis.
