Scopes have been around since the 18th century, and they've come a long way. In Douglasville, Georgia, there is an old scope museum that features some of the most amazing examples of this type of equipment. The museum was started in 1978 by local citizen Doug Smith, and it now contains over 50 scopes from all over the world. One of the most impressive pieces on display is a 12-meter telescope built by Professor Edward A. Condon in 1909. It's one of only two such telescopes still in use today. It's also interesting to note that Scopes were not always used for hunting or observing; they were originally designed to be used for teaching children about astronomy. Many of these scopes are still being used today, and they're often used for research purposes as well. It's definitely worth checking out the museum if you're ever in Douglasville!

The first scopes were designed in 1792 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. The company that produced the first telescope, "Nicholson and Porter", was founded in 1825 by John Nicholson. In 1851, Jameson and Company began producing telescopes based on the original design of Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In 1876, American Institute of Physics developed a new design for a single eyepiece telescope called the "Atcherley". This telescope became very popular and helped to change the way people see the world around them.
Douglasville is a town in Dougherty County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Douglasville is located on U.S. Route 20 south of Cobb County and north of Athens-Clarke County. According to the United States Census Bureau, Douglasville has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2 km²), all land.
The first settler in what would become Douglasville was William McIntosh in 1816. In 1821, Alexander Caldwell settled in this town and named it for his father-in-law, General James McDowell who had died in 1810 during the Mexican–American War. The first post office was established in 1824 and was called "McIntosh".
In 1830, Thomas Watson moved from Macon to start a cotton gin near what is now Douglasville Boulevard and Old Stone Road. In 1840, Fenton Hunt bought 1/3 interest in the old Thomson cotton gin When he died suddenly few months later Hunt's heirs decided not to proceed with plans to build a new gin but instead sell off some acreage around it which they did.
In 1850 Douglass Ewing purchased 3/4 interest in Hunt's estate and renamed itDouglasesville after his slaveholding ancestor Daniel Gentry Douglass.
On July 13th 1865 Union general Nathan Bedford Forrest burned down part of Baptist Church while retreating from Confederate forces at Chattahoochee River Bridge. It took several weeks for Forrest's men to search through every building before finding anything incriminating so no one was arrested or charged After that event many businesses closed up shop as people were scared others might have been caught up in Forrest's actions The last post office closed on October 2nd 1865. The focus for most development outside agriculture until well into the 20th century occurred within agriculture especially if one looked towards downtown where many large stores such as Sears Roebuck& Co., Jardine Bros., Griggs Hardware Company etc were built beginning around 1910 – 1920.
Douglasville flourished during Reconstruction due largely to its position along Interstate 20 which made goods available quickly throughout much of Southeast Georgia
