Douglasville is located in the U.S. state of Georgia, and it is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1821 by Captain John Douglass, who named it for his friend and mentor, General James Douglas. TheDouglasville holster company was founded in 1892 by John A. "Pat" Hickey and J.W. De Witt, Sr., two men who had known Douglas since he served as a naval officer during the Mexican-American War. The company became one of the leading holster manufacturers in the United States, producing holsters for a wide range of firearms including revolvers, shotguns, pistols and rifles. In 1924, Hickey sold his company to George Ewing Jr., who renamed it The George Ewing Armory Company. Under his ownership, the armory produced holsters for a variety of handguns such as Smith & Wesson Model 629 revolvers and Colt Python semiautomatic pistols with 13 rounds per clip (the first self-loading pistol to be made in America). In 1957, Ewing began production at his new factory on Morehouse Street in downtown Atlanta of their iconic “T” gun Holster which remains popular to this day with law enforcement officials all over America . Douglasville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,887 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and home to the Douglasville Mall. The city lies on the eastern border of Atlanta. The city was founded in 1823 as a small farmers town named after Captain John Douglas by General James Sulky and his wife Catharine Sulky. They named it for Captains John Douglas and David Forster who had been killed in action during the American Revolution. The Sulkies were Scottish immigrants who came to America in 1795 and started a cotton plantation west of Savannah. After their lease expired in 1824 they sold their land to J.C. Broughton who built what is now downtownDouglasville on land he donated from his cotton plantations near present-day Peachtree Street and Hammond Avenue). In 1827, when Georgia became an independent country, Broughton offered part of his land for a new town site which would be called Douglasville after him – but no one moved until 1829 when Elijah Phenebaugh bought two tracts of land east of downtown from Broughton for $40 per acre (about ). He laid out streets and constructed a courthouse/ jail which served as both community center and courthouse until 1898 when it burned down while under construction in1899; this event is generally cited as starting the decline of Douglasville's reputation as an important settlement during its heyday between 1800-1899 Although there have been sporadic fires over the years, most notably one that destroyed much of downtownDouglasville in 1903, no major fires have struck Douglasville since World War II began In 1834 Drury erected what are still considered today's original homes on Ferry Road north-west of downtownDouglasville; these were later replaced with brick homes around 1865-1866 by Jno Adams & Bros., which then became Waddell & Sexton Builders Incorporated This company supplied many early architects with plan materials for developing what are now known as Georgian Revival architecture throughout northeast Georgia including those responsible for building much of Atlanta Some famous architects associated with this period include: Isaac Backus ( builder of State Capitol), Wm Hite ( architect/builderof Perimeter Park library), George Woodward ( builderof First National Bank Building) Mr Smith also did some commissioned work by prominent businessman James Dyer including designing Dyers Store across from Centennial Olympic Park One can still see evidence remaining today inside Smith’s family home on Fountain Drive adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park where extensive renovation occurred between 1984-1986 that recovered most or all+original features In 1888 Mrs Fannie Beal located her first grocery store - Mrs Beal’s Market - at 424 Pryor Street just north-east corner of Freeman Avenue east side immediately south sideof Dunwoody Parkway just before intersection with Dunwoody Rd today located inside City limits about midway between Paulding Rd & Freeman Ave

Douglasville was founded on December 12, 1824 by General David Butler as a post office and trading center for the Chattahoochee River Valley. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the railroad and its access to natural resources including timber and water. In 1852, Douglasville became the county seat of Fulton County. After more than fifty years as its primary administrative center, Douglasville relocated to its current location in 1919. Today, Douglasville is an important cultural and economic center within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city has been home to many notable people throughout its history including education leaders Jeryl Reidy and Alonzo Mourning; business magnate Lamar Hunt; author Harper Lee; and entertainers Bobby Vinton and Dolly Parton. The first inhabitants of what would become Douglasville were Creekside Indians who hunted game near present-day Alpharetta. European settlement began with General David Butler's purchase of land from the Creekside in 1824. Butler named his new holdings "Douglas" after President James Kenedy of Virginia who had helped negotiate a treaty ceding Cherokee lands west of Chattanooga to Georgia in 1802 (the Treaty of New Echota). On December 12, 1824, Butler post office opened at this site with twenty-six residents: eight men or boys from Howell's Creek Township (northwest corner), six men from Baldwin's Creek Township (southwest corner), four men from Browning's Creek Township (east side), three men from Herring Creek Township (southwest corner), one man each from Capps' farmstead northwest of town limits, John Roachman's farmstead northeast of town limits, Andrew Smith's farmstead east of town limits In 1830–31 Jones conducted a survey which indicated that there were no villages or settlements within present day Douglasville boundaries other than those mentioned on original platting sheets prepared by Captain Thomas Robertson during his tour through East Cobb County prior to 1800 AD when he discovered large tracts of wooded country lying between Chattahoochee River and Rocky Mountains extending inland for some 100 miles or so beyond modern Atlanta proper – much like what exists today adjacent Toombs National Forest boundary line! So very much did this virgin forest interested him that he donated all tree rights along most length thereof subsequent grantees receive thereby achieving perpetuity! Noteworthy also Jones noted several small properties now located northside Of Home Road Schoolhouse & Baldwin Rd just outside City Limits being part OF Little Rock road known then as Hwy 123 today’s Old Glenn Rd reroute “The Turnpike” – Now I-285/I-20 SOUTHWEST CORNER!!! 4 next pages
