In 1907, when Atlanta became its own municipality, Douglasville became one of its first departments - responsible for education and public works among other areas. A post office called Douglasville began operation in 1876; it was discontinued in 1922 because letterpost service within Fulton County had been provided byAtlantaPost & Telegraph Company until 1928. Apparently an early resident of this locality was Jno Miller who settled about 1770 on a tract known then as Miller's Mill Pond or Moor’s Mill Pond near present day Rosser Street and Pryor Road East in present day Chattahoochee Township

At first, these newcomers worked farms or construction work for pioneers who had come to Whatcom County seeking new land to settle after Removal Creek ran through central Alabama and destroyed much of southeastern Alabama during the 1830s and 1840s
