Brownell patented a shotgun design that would soon become known as the Brownell Shotgun. This shotgun was designed to fire shots with clays or feathers instead of lead pellets. over time, other shotguns such as the Remington 870 became popular and were also distributed through gun shows and retailers across central Georgia. One of the most famous Gun Choke events took place on November 3rd, 1895 when multiple gunmen stormed into the Douglasville Armory located on Peachtree Street. Led by outlaw Jesse James who carried an experimental revolver called "The Model 10", this group committed mass murders throughout Douglasville before finally being apprehended by law enforcement later that day. As a result of this event, gun control laws were passed in Georgia and America for many years to come; thisevent has been cited as one of the earliest examples of gun control legislation in America.

In 1870, a post office called "Douglasville" was established; it continued to be used until 1907. In 1887, when Fulton County became independent from Georgia,Douglasville became part of its new county. The first plank road into town waslaid down by Jno Wirtz in 1886; this route still runs through downtown today as Sixth Street/Broadway Avenue Extension

By 1860 the town had a total population of about 60 people with 12 churches spread throughout 6 sections including one section that consisted only of ferry homes! In 1865 Captains James Gentry (1797-1864), William Fenton (1800-72).and Thomas Pemberton explored routes through Middle Chattahoochee River Valley prospecting for coal Mines nearpresent day Peachtree Island before reaching an agreement with American Coal Company & Transportation Co., resulted in construction commence of Railroad running between Enterprise/Macon & Atlanta along route CR 1/Peachtree Rd thence northwesterly on spur line to intersect road at present day Cass Avenue just south of First Baptist Church - this being main Business District prior to Exposition Park area development! In 1870 two more pioneers Douglassites Denny & Johnnie Pyles came downriver from Decatur Territory9 miles above Rogers Station landing at what are now Ferry Road Bridge & Depot Landing beside steamboat channel just below mouth of Chickasaw Creek adjacent today's Airport which opened December 9th 1865 when Railroad reached here about 2 1/2 Miles West Of Town limits after crossing Pee Dee River just upstream from today’s courthouse site where we now stand! This railroad connection allowed farmers access to markets outside OfTown limits so during early days many goods got transported Roadside or down river which helped create some very strong trade relationships With folks all over Southeast US especially InSouth Alabama
