Douglasville is a city in Georgia, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gwinnett County. Douglasville is located on the west bank of the Chattahoochee River and its proximity to Atlanta has led to its nickname "The City of oranges." In 1802, a group of Englishmen from neighboring Cobb County founded what is now Douglasville after purchasing land from the Creek Nation. They named their new village for General James Douglas, an officer in King George II's army who had fought against Spain in 1779 and 1781. In 1811, Douglasville became part of what later became Gwinnett County. AfterAtlanta's incorporation as a town in 1839, Douglasville's position as county seat increased rapidly because it lay on both banks of the Chattahoochee River. In 1870, when Atlanta annexed more territory to form its current municipality boundaries, Douglasville remained within Gwinnett County but was included in newly formed DeKalb County because it was adjacent to that county's most populous city – Decatur – and because some residents there wanted to keep their community close to friends and family living outside of Atlanta. However, by 1895 when Atlanta annexed Fulton County and completed its annexation process into municipal jurisdiction (it did this by splitting DeKalb County along 1/4 mile lines), all except Forster Township were within Fulton County while Forster Township still sat within GwinnittCounty limits; accordingly-Douglasvillians continued refer to themselves as "Gwinnettians" even though they lived primarily within FultonCounty boundaries until recently when annexation into Municipal Jurisdiction finally made them all residents of one entity known as “Atlanta” once again! After years long discussion between various factions over whether or not Toombs Lake would be developed into an urban center like other cities with similar sized lakes like Savannah or KnoxVILLE dueMarket Street being widened from 2 blocks wide at one point down to 3 blocks wide now allows for more than just outdoor dining without sacrificing character or charm found near Toombs Lake which sits atop a hill surrounded by oak trees making it difficult if not impossible for small businesses such as 7-Elevens etc., owner/operators decided that this would be their opportunity do something special & take advantage of infrastructure improvements funded through Tax Increment financing Program available only through Cities & Counties which will create jobs & spur economic growth especially given upcoming mayoral election year where much attention will be focused on downtown areas including historic 2nd Ward district represented by former Mayor Kasim Reed

Douglasville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 37,693 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Douglasville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Fulton County were those who sailed from England on the "Dreadnought" in 1795 and landed at Savannah, Georgia on January 6, 1796. They included Captain John Smith (1745-1819), supposed to be the first white man ever to set foot on American soil. This group of English sailors founded what would become known as Savannah, which became an important seaport for goods coming into and leaving Georgia during this time period. The town of Douglasville was established just south of Savannah in 1807 by General James Oglethorpe and Captain Nicholas Biddle as a Danish Lutheran settlement named after his father-in-law Christian Friedrich Wilhelm von Schwedt (1724-1800). The name change came about because when Douglasville had its original founding there were only two families living there: Von Schwedt's and Oglethorpe's. When General Oglethorpe died in 1821 his widow decided to continue using her maiden name which was later changed to Douglasville after her husband's death. In 1836 Douglasville was incorporated as a borough; it remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became part of the city of Atlanta through annexation byAtlanta proper. In that year offshoots of the African American community began moving into downtown Atlanta while most Douglasvillians chose to remain rural – with few exceptions being business people who lived near their workplaces or students at nearby Auburn University and Morehouse College

The city was founded in 1868 by John A. Douglas and named for him. In 1907, it became part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and was renamed Douglasville- Roswell International Airport after General Maxwell Burdette Farragut, Jr., who died in World War II at age 47 while commanding Task Force 16 during Operation Neptune's Spear.
