With its population growth and changing needs over time, VRPO has changed its name multiple times since then – most recently to incorporate all or portions of seven other southeastern counties: Clarke, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Jenkins County and Montgomery County – which makes up today’s Douglas region. Today's community district includes parts of both old metro Atlanta (including Decatur) and newer Roswell areas as well as much rural farmland east of I-285 between US 21st Street south to US 287th Street and north to SR 50th Street.
