From 1902-1915, an ammunition dump called "The Firing Range" operated on Howard Road near present day I-85 between Decatur Street and milepost 478. It was here that people could purchase munitions for their shotguns and rifles from local merchants. Ammunition sales continued into World War II when it became known as "The Ammo Store". After World War II, Gunsight Manufacturing Inc., located on State Route 121 north of Hwy 111 formed part of what is now Smith & Wesson Firearms USA (SWFUSA) based out of Springfield Armory near Chicago IL with production moving to Decatur GA during 1957-1968 under license from Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd (IAI). The plant closed down due to economic conditions after only two years Of operations while still using parts derived from IAI plants all over THE WORLD! SWFUSA finally folded up operations completely within 2 months OF PRODUCTION IN DECATUR GALAXY!!
