Doraville, Georgia is a town located in Macon County, Georgia. The population of the town was 8,780 at the 2010 census. Doraville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first European settlement in present-day Doraville was made on March 21, 1792 by Captain James Cook and his crew of the HMS "Endeavor" when they landed onamai (now Georgetown) Island in what is now Macon County. It was not until 1821 that General John Cushing established a post office here for the purpose of trading with Indian nations. In 1856, General Nathan Bedford Forrest leased from Walton Brothers land here for $1 per acre to build a railroad connection between Chattanooga and points south. In 1865, this railroad became known as the Atlanta and Chattanooga Railway Company. In 1868 Charles Goodall founded an Agricultural Experiment Station in Doraville which remains an important resource today for students studying agriculture in surrounding towns and counties."

Doraville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1824 by Scots-Irish immigrants and has been located in the present-day area since that time. The population was 8,411 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town's namesake is Elijah Doraville, who came to America from Scotland in 1824 and settled on a plantation near what is now Doraville. In 1829, Elijah's two younger brothers, Daniel and John Doraville (also known as "Jenny"), founded a sawmill in what is now Doraville. The mill continued operating until it was destroyed by fire on December 14, 1892. In 1865, Elijah's grandson John Henson Doraville purchased the plantation near present day Doraville from his father-in-law David Fenton for $1 million dollars cash. From then until his death in 1951, John Henson Doraville was its sole proprietor and landlord. He also endowed the first high school in the area which opened its doors to students on September 15th of that year - named after him - with an initial enrollment of just six students! As one might expect given their long history within the community and ancestor's role therein, there are many historical landmarks associated with Doraville including: Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church; Joicey House; McCrary Library; Griggs Mill; Methodist Episcopal Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints); White Horse Tavern; Goodloe House Museum; and much more!
Doraville was founded in 1802 by General James Wilkinson and his wife, Martha. The town was named for the Doraville Plantation, which Wilkinson owned. The town's first store was built in 1814. Doraville became a post-office in 1825. In 1830, the state of Georgia began issuing paper currency. As money gradually lost its value, merchants began to replace it with goods from Europe. In 1840, Wilkinson died and his widow took over the business. She continued to run it until her death in 1865. In 1865, the town passed into private hands and it has since been abandoned.
