The first shot of the American Revolution was fired in Doraville, Georgia on July 4, 1775. The town was founded by George Washington and his army as a military base during the war against Great Britain. It served as a temporary home to General James Wilkinson during his stay in Georgia. Its growth continued throughout the 19th century, with numerous businesses and residences being built in downtown area. In 1892, it incorporated as a city and its population increased to over 30,000 people. During World War II, Doraville was one of three communities located within the Atlanta metropolitan area that were bombed by Japanese bombers on December 7, 1941. More than 60% of all buildings in downtown were destroyed or damaged when bombs fell from Allied planes over the town during that time period. After the war ended, many residents returned to their homes and businesses while others relocated to other parts of Georgia or America. Today, Doraville is an active community with diverse cultural experiences and experiencing strong economic growth since becoming a city again in 1992. Doraville, Georgia is a small town in the Muscogee County School District located on the Flint River. The population was 2,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settlers arrived in Doraville in 1827 and it became a village in 1836. A post office was established in Doraville in 1853, and the name changed to its current spelling, Doraville, in 1860. The community had a school district until 1907 when it merged into the Chattanooga Public Schools system. In 1906, people from Atlanta decided to move to what is now rural Muscogee County and begin farmsteading there. They named their new community after George Washington Carver who had settled near Mound City earlier that year. By 1909, over 100 families had moved here and started farms which included corn planting and raising hogs for meat and bacon production; they also raised poultry and eggs. That same year saw an important event when Jno Epps organized a group of nine African Americans who wanted to improve their lives by starting their own businesses: grocery store, dry goods store, clothing store etcetera. At first these businesses were failures but with hard work they turned around over time and made such huge contributions to the community that they are still remembered today as "The Epps Men." During World War I Halton Hill died due to gunshot wounds he received while serving with distinction as an American Infantryman with Company G (2nd Battalion) 116th Infantry Regiment during World War I at Inchon beach on September 16th 1918; he was posthumously awarded the United States military's highest decoration -the Medal of Honor- for his heroism above and beyond all others engaged therein-the Purple Heart . As a result of this tragedy many citizens donated money for burial expenses including $1 million given by Mrs .Halton Hill herself which has been buried at Arlington National Cemetery since 1951.. When General Motors plant opened up downriver from Doraville in 1955 many jobs were created within GM due to advances in manufacturing technology; however like most places throughout America during those years economic times changed dramatically with oil prices skyrocketing which caused joblessness among black workers throughout much of America including downtown Chattanooga

In 1974-1975, Historic District #3 was added to coincide with the centennial of incorporation of Doravilles into Fayette County. Today, DoravILLE still continues to play an important role within local culture with events such as Oktoberfest celebrations taking place annually throughout October

Doraville was founded in 1878 by John Doraville. The city was named after the Doraville River, which flows through the city. The City of Doraville was incorporated on February 1, 1881. The population of the City increased from 375 to 4,822 by 1890. In 1917, World War I began and the city suffered a significant loss of life due to military activity. However, the city bounced back and experienced an increase in population over the next few years. By 1930, there were 6,567 residents living in the City of Doraville. The 1940 census reported that there were 11,362 residents living in Doraville. During World War II, townspeople volunteered for service and worked extremely hard to support the war effort; however, they also lost many citizens during the war. Afterward, there was an increase in crime and poverty in Doraville; however, Mayor George Washington ordered a new police department to be created with more resources so that they could address these issues head-on. In 1978-1979 The first African American mayor of any town or village in Georgia was elected when Melvin Payne won against incumbent white Mayor Huggins 89% to 11%.
