However, when cotton prices went up and fences were built around areas such as Ponce de Leon Park to keep out devastating floods caused by heavy rains, business began to decline again until World War II saved the city from continuing its rapid decline. Today, much of what once constituted downtown is gone but parts like Ponce de Leon Park still offer opportunities for fun activities such as hiking or picnicking along their namesake creek which flows through the park mostly around 9 am EDT each day during summer months without getting wet (though some sections are wider at 4 feet below sea level). Additionally there are several small neighborhoods located near various parks like Midtown Village which offers smaller grocery stores and cafes while also having multiple public transportation options including MARTA stations close by making it easy to get around town without ever leaving your neighborhood (and if you do leave your streetcar stops will continue running even if you walk away). Overall though most people find downtown today very busy with all sorts of retail choices available however they can easily avoid walking/standing inside too much because many places have wheelchair accessible entrances/elevators just in case!
