The economy of Decatur depends strongly upon two major industries: defense contractor General Dynamics (GD) and general aviation entrepreneur David Ladd Aviation Incorporated (DLAI). GD manufactures munitions and other weapons systems for American military service abroad; DLAI operates three airports serving Decatur – DeKalb Municipal Airport (KDFW), Chattahoochee Regional Airport (CHAO), and Alpharetta Municipal Airport (ALPH). These airports are important not only because they serve commercial airlines but also because they are within walking distance of many businesses and residences in downtown Decatur. Defense contractor GD does most of its manufacturing here within GD’s own facilities; however, it uses adjacent subcontractors when needed outside the United States or when producing products with components made elsewhere outside America altogether.DLAI operates three airports primarily for general aviation purposes: DeKalb Municipal Airport (KDFW), Chattahoochee Regional Airport (CHAO), and Alpharetta Municipal Airport (ALPH). These three airports are important not only because they serve commercial airlines but also because they are within walking distance of many businesses and residences in downtown Decatur

With the introduction of Kodachrome film in 1935, photography entered a new era where motion was captured through film instead of through visible light.

Decatur is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 15,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Decatur School District includes seven schools: Decatur High School, Morehouse College Decatur Campus, Christ Episcopal Church-Northside (DEC), Stonehenge Middle School, and Vine Hill Elementary School. In addition to its educational institutions, Decatur also has a number of businesses and industries which contribute to its economy. These include Allstate Insurance Co., Home Depot Inc., Five Points Hospitality Group Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp., Marietta National Bank & Trust Company and Ponce de Leon University. The first white settler in what is now Decatur was James Cook who arrived on his ship "Endeavour" in 1795 and named it after his homeland of England - HMS "Endeavour". Cook's voyage lasted from December 14th through January 5th of that year; he sighted what is now known as Savannah Bay on January 3rd but did not land because of bad weather conditions at the time. He continued sailing until February 4th when he reached what is now Mobile Bayou. Cook named this bay fortifications Fort George after King George II of Great Britain and Father Marquette who founded St Louis Parish in 1763 near where Mobile Bayou empties into Lake Pontchartrain south of today's downtown Jacksonville). A second white settler in what is now Decatur was John Stevens who arrived with his family on their ship "John Stevens" on October 26th 1807 from Rhode Island during the Second Seminole War between Spain and America. Upon arrival they erected a small cabin within present day Pioneer Square before moving to their permanent home across Broad Street from present day Allstate Insurance company headquarters building on November 6th 1807. Stevens' wife Catherine bore him three children: Samuel (1808-1892), Josephine (1810-1890) and Katherine (born about 1812).
