The community was founded in 1851 as a Mormon outpost on what is now the corner of High Street and Promontory Road. In 1912, Cusseta became part of the newly formed city of Dalton. In 1978, it became part of Milton. Cusseta is located east of Interstate 85 and northwest of Atlanta proper. It has a rural setting with rolling hills to the south and east and numerous cotton fields to the north. There are several churches within walking distance: First Baptist Church (founded in 1851), Christ Helpers Parish (founded 1902), Baptist Church (1898), Methodist Episcopal Church (1908), Presbyterian Church (1794). In recent years, there has been development around the town center - including an adult-boil water park called "Splash Mountain" which opened in 2005; a new high school built in 2006; an amphitheater for concerts/fundraisers called "Dalton Amphitheater"; new businesses such as a grocery store/gas station/cafeteria complex; and a home builders/condo builder complex on State Route 283 known as "The Grove".
