Captain Fenton Welsh also settled in Decatur in 1830 and named it after his father-in-law and business partner Colonel William Welsh (1792-1850). In 1936, the railroad built its tracks through Cusseta and started to call it "Decatur". The post office opened in 1918 and was renamed "Cusseta" in 1941.
