Covington, Georgia is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,549 at the 2000 census. Covington is part of the Athens-Clarke Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to the Covington Christian School, one of two private schools in Fulton County and one of only two such schools in Georgia. The first residents of what would become Covington were freed slaves who had been brought over from Africa by General Allen Welsh Johnston during the American Civil War. From here they developed a small farming community which included some enslaved African Americans as well as white settlers. Many early residents were ministers and religious leaders who helped found churches and dispensaries in the community. In 1875, local lawyer Prentice Mclntyre bought land near present-day corner of Glenn Drive and Broad Street for a new town hall and schoolhouse; these improvements later became known as "Mclntyre's Square." In 1865, when Atlanta was founded as an incorporated city, John A. Macdonald granted land to Wm Hays for development into a town center with markets, hotels, churches and public buildings; however this idea was never fully realized because of financial difficulties caused by the Great Depression. On October 9th 1920 (the date which still marks ground zero for many Atlantans due to Hurricane Andrew), developers Harry Davenport & sons purchased 5 acres southeast of present day Lowndes Avenue from Mr. McNaught for $2 per acre; under this deal 3 Mile Creek formed the western boundary of today’s town limits while opposite – east on Lowndes Avenue – lay undeveloped tracts that would form Macdonald Park (now known as Midtown). Today much remains unchanged from those early days including downtown square dominated by Mclntyre's School where today’s City Hall Annex stands; once housing several hundred people it has now been leased out to various businesses including a high-end dog park - perfect for all those Amazon Prime customers! Despite being smaller than most UPNP communities (just over 1K residents) throughout its history Covington has racked up some impressive accomplishments including: having been featured on numerous reality TV shows such as "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" ; becoming host city for both Atlanta's annual attributable art show & international music festival 'FEST'; ranking #1 among all southeastern Georgia communities in terms of job growth rate between 2004-2010 according to Forbes Magazine It wasn't until after World War II that things really started kicking off for Covington with large numbers coming back following service members stationed overseas uranium enrichment plants - giving birth not only to our country's first nuclear plant but also many subsequent jobs in related industries Many current/historic landmarks include: former US Post Office building now home to The Georgian Inn & Suites hotel (& restaurant); MACNATCHE'S SCHOOL - built 1875 serving grades K thru 12 until 1997 when it reverted back to public school status after being taken over by CCMS; original courthouse / jail now used as office space by professional services firm Allnetz Financial Inc.; original cotton gin now functions as an arts museum titled "The Cotton Gin Museum"

Covington is a town in southern Georgia, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It has been named by the US Census Bureau for John Covington, an early settler and general in the American Revolution. The community of Covington was founded on December 5, 1821, when four men from Georgia gathered around a campfire to plot their future. They decided to name their new settlement after Colonel John Covington (1763-1848), one of the leading patriots during the American Revolution. The town began growth quickly, with settlers arriving from all over Georgia and Tennessee. By 1830, Covington had a store and two churches. In 1841, the first school opened in what is now downtown Covington. During World War II, much of Mrgridge County was destroyed by fire as part of military efforts in support of Japan's war effort against America. The towns of Grovetown and Newton were also destroyed but Mobile City eventually emerged as the most severely damaged community due to its strategic location on I-10 Exit 95A which served as an airfield for Japanese bombers during World War II; however damage done to Mrgridge County has not yet been fully assessed or repaired
The city of Covington, Georgia was founded in 1807 by General James Wilkinson. The city became a state capital in 1907 and was named for General Wilkinson's ancestor, John Covington.
