Cordele, Georgia is a small town in the US state of Georgia. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Randolph County. Cordele was founded in 1819 by General James Wilkinson and named for him. The town was first settled by white farmers who worked on the land that now includes Cordele. The first store opened in 1827 and early residents were primarily tobacco growers and smugglers. The town's growth came when veterans from the American Civil War moved to Cordele to find work. In 1865, the Union Army destroyed part of Athens,Georgia, which led to a increase in trade between Athens and Cordele. By 1880, Cordele had a full-time school system and several businesses including an insurance company, bank and post office. During World War II, cordeliers helped provide food for troops stationed in South Carolina and Georgia. After the war ended, many people left Cordeele for better jobs or elsewhere in rural America but some stayed to maintain their community spirit even after moving away from hometowns they loved. In recent years cordeliers have started back up activities such as music festivals, art shows and more traditional events like cornbread stuffing contests

Cordele is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,232 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The first permanent settler in Cordele was Andrew Pickens, who arrived on July 3, 1802. He named his new town after himself and built a cabin near the present day downtown area. The town's first postmaster was Elisha Goodloe and its first store was opened by John Hogg on December 25, 1810. In 1811, cordele became part of what would become Augusta County; it remained as such until 1828 when it became part of Fulton County. In 1865, due to an increase in cotton production in nearby Athens, Cordele voted to secede from Augusta County and form its own government with itself as its capital. The city's first mayor was Nathaniel Pemberton and its first jailer Augustus Meeks. In 1886–87 Cordele erected the first brick schoolhouse in America within what is now known as the municipal limits of Atlanta; it served as education for all citizens of Cordelle during that time period. That same year saw also the opening of Atlanta's second (and still extant) bank-owned grocery store – which later evolved into one of Atlantas largest financial institutions – located on Constitution Avenue just south of Terminal Park Drive today’s Bankhead Center Shopping Mall aka "the old World's Fair", across from Philips Arena (now home to the Atlanta Hawks). The late 1800s were a time when books were becoming more important than ever before with advances being made in technology like photography and radio broadcasting that made buying these items easier than ever before! Stores like this not only helped feed people but also allowed businesses to grow quickly because customers could get their hands on new products without going outof their way or having to wait weeks or even months for them to hit shelves!
