Cordele is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Cordele is located on the Altamaha River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa). The area around Cordele had been inhabited by humans since prehistory. In 1802, Andrew Jackson arrived to found what would become Atlanta and named it after his home state of Tennessee. When he was elected president in 1824, he moved the capital of the United States from Philadelphia to New Orleans so that no one could say that Atlanta was not part of America. However, Atlanta still claimed to be the "City of Destiny" because its location made it an important commercial center for cotton trade and for developing new industries such as railroads and publishing mills. The citizens of Atlanta lobbied hard to keep their city limits unchanged when they seceded from Georgia in 1868 during the American Civil War over states’ rights issues. When Reconstruction ended in 1865, many African Americans were re-educated and enterprising white men moved into what had once been black neighborhoods near downtown while white men continued working in traditional black businesses such as grocery stores and transportation companies. This process known as “white flight” accelerated when violence increased between races during Reconstruction years and federal troops began occupying Georgia towns in order to enforce desegregation laws. Businesses closed down; people left; schools closed; churches lost congregations; Race riots broke out throughout much of Piedmont counties including Cordele where whites killed blacks who resisted integration efforts or attempted to leave town for economic reasons In 1871–72 Jno.[?] Banks became mayor of Atlanta after being elected chairman of the Republican National Committee He quickly realized that race was still a factor in business dealings throughout most Piedmont counties Despite his best intentions – which included creating jobs for freedmen – this also meant that downtown areas were almost entirely devoid of Negro residents except for occasional small businesses operating illegally or under duress From then until 1965 when discrimination ordinances finally outlawed all forms race discrimination within institutions receiving government funding through education (i.e., public libraries) cordelians have generally enjoyed protection from any kind form racism however some unique challenges do exist with housing prices persistently high relative to other western suburbs

Cordele is a town in northern Georgia. The population was 5,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first mention of Cordele comes from an ancient map made by Major John Young in 1775. At that time, Cordele was known as "Indian Town" because it had been allotted to the Creek people for their hunting and fishing rights. In 1801, the Treaty of Montgomery granted land to Georgians east of the Chattahoochee River, including what is now Cordele. The town was founded on November 20, 1802 by Captain Nathan Bedford Forrest and his family after they left Tallahassee, Florida for Georgia with several hundred men under General Hugh Blair's command. After landing at Yamacrawa Bluff on September 4, 1802, Forrest named his company "Cordelle." The first store in Cordele opened its doors on October 1, 1803. In 1805-1806 Governor James Gadsden dispatched Colonel Robert Ewell with three companies of militia to patrol rifle pits along the Chattahoochee River and protect propertyowner interests against Indians who were raiding crops and livestock near cordellesville (now Cobb County). By December 1805 there were also reports of Cherokee uprisings throughout southern Alabama and northern Georgia; so Gadsden ordered Fort Moultrie to be built at Dahlgren (near Savannah) to provide military protection for South Georgia instead of moving northward into Indian Territory as he had intended Gadsden also recommended that all settlements along the Chattahoochee River be abandoned until further notice because settlers could not control Indian raids which often involved large amounts of loss or destruction inflicted upon farming communities . This order caused much consternation among some farmers who did not want their land taken away but felt forced into submission by government power. Captain Forrest moved his headquarters from Tallahassee early in January 1806 to cordelleville where he soon began building a log cabin which served as both home and office until destroyed by fire in May 1860 . Fording Sweetwater Creek formed part ofCaptainForrest's grazing ranch which included about 6 miles (10 km) wide strip between old fort Moultrie and new fort Dahlgren running back towards tallahassee creek where cattle were collected during winter months
