Cordele, Georgia has a rich andISTORYFUL history with guns. Cordele was founded in 1853 by General James Hogg, who named the town after his old home near Kingston, Tennessee. The first gun in Cordele was an 8-pounder cannon that was used to open the coronavirus pandemic declaration at the health department on October 3rd, 2009. This event helped set the precedent for gun control measures that have been passed since then. In 1955, Cordele passed its first ordinance regulating handguns and ammunition. This measure made it a criminal offence to possess or use any handgun without a license from city hall. In 1970, Cordele became one of the first cities in Georgia to pass a comprehensive handgun licensing law which required all citizens over 21 years of age to obtain a license to purchase or possess handguns. It has been said that this law helped reduce crime in Cordele by helping people know how to properly store their firearms and handle them safely
