He also helped found both the town hall (1912) and the first high school (1923). Cordele’s growth came about due to its location close to larger cities such as Atlanta or Savannah but also because it was an excellent place for agricultural production thanks to its fertile soil and abundant rainfall. Its economy changed when World War I ended but slowly started to rebound after that point until becoming fully industrialized by 1930.
