Founded in 1802 as a small station on the Chattahoochee River, Conyers grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources. In 1906 it became an official city with a population of 507. It has since grown to over 100,000 residents and continues to grow in size due to its agricultural products and services.

Conyers is a small town in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. In 1881, Conyers was the home of Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard and his family during the American Civil War; he later moved to Savannah, Georgia. The town's first store opened in 1884 and its first post office in 1886. The town was named for General James Conyers (1814-1886), a Confederate general who fought in the American Civil War and died of wounds at Appomattox Court House east of Richmond, Virginia on April 9, 1886. The townsite that now forms part of Conyers was laid out by Colonel John Senter on May 10, 1849 as part of a system designed to provide convenient transportation between Atlanta and Decatur County through an improved roadbed which would eventually be known as the "Decatur Road". By 1860 there were only six dwellings in the area now comprising Conyers; it had grown rapidly due to railroads being built throughout Fulton County during that decade and because cotton plantations had been converted into farms following Reconstruction. A branch line from Marietta to Dahlonega opened in 1872 and quickly became one of the most important transportation arteries within southeastern Georgia; traffic along it totaled more than 100 cars per day by 1880 The opening of the railroad likely contributed to Conyers' growth beyond what would have been possible without it: according to historian Jerald Hargrave, "by 1870 [the] downtown core [ofConyers]...contained two blocks long with Noble & Taylor Streets running perpendicular thereto ... there were no other buildings within one hundred fifty feet of any street." This period also saw significant expansion into areas once considered rural – such as Whiteface Township – while still retaining much rural character overall; this process began around 1840 when adjacent landowner Joseph McCoy started developing what is now Lithonia Park northeast of present day Conyers The early years following World War II were difficult for many small towns across America due to factors such as postwar recession、 war shortages、 rising housing prices}; however, Conyers did not experience similar difficulties until after 1945 when petroleum production ended} In 1958–1959 amendments made to the US Constitution allowed for congressional districts drawn using apportionment formulas rather than straight party lines so that people living in rural or isolated areas could gain representation . Consequently , several residents from eastern Cobb County including future congressman Manual Sanchez came westward looking for new opportunities ; they founded Gwinnett Associates Incorporated (GAIA) which lobbied unsuccessfully for Congressional district assignments that year . After several years dithering,, GAIA filed suit on November 3rd 1961 alleging racial discrimination against black Georgians by their Democratic Party predecessors }; subsequent hearings led GAIA president William Vandemark Jr.– who had previously been involved with Phillips Petroleum Company’s unsuccessful efforts to get Congress assigned seats south of Interstate 85–to form an independent legal team which proceeded to win certification from two white arbitrators on December 5th 1963 that race could not be a factor in district assignments After finally achieving Congressional seat assignments for northwestern Fulton County following several years’ negotiations among various political factions (),[1] Gwinnett Associates Incorporated soon became well-known nationally and locally among legislators representing those districts;; concurrent with this increase in national recognitionaronounced its intentto open up additional contiguous territory within Georgia —including parts lying north and east OFI85[]—to house its constituents [] Today's economy relies largely upon service industry jobs such as health care workstations or personal computers whereas manufacturing has declined significantly since 2000 [] At its peak about ninety percent of all businesses operated outside either commerce or services [] According TO2017 CONYERS INDUSTRIES COMPANY WINS MORE PAYING TRADE TASKS THAN ANYONE IN GEORGIA
