Conyers is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,101 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first settler in Conyers Township was James Conyers who arrived in 1795. He named it after his father, John Conyers. In 1802, one of Cobb County's original ten districts was established and included what is now Conyers Township and parts of neighboring Roswell Township. In 1835, a new courthouse was erected on North Front Street in downtown Conyers by General Nathan Bedford Forrest to Beverley Tucker's design. In 1868, when Cobb County became one district under the newly created county government, the old courthouse housed the jail until 1886 when it along with most other county buildings were destroyed by fire. In 1916 an agreement was reached between cotton farmers from nearby Thomson and growers from around Atlanta to form the Farmers Home League of Georgia (FHL). The FHL leased land near present-day Sandy Springs for a housing development that would include schools and A&M University (later Auburn University). The development name was changed toconcordia mall after Concordia College serving as its initial tenante
