Cook’s expedition followed his discovery until they ran out of food and returned home in 1795 with an Indian prisoner as their guide. This event marked the beginning of Spanish American history in North America because Spain had claimed all of Florida since 1500 AD and by 1800, they were claiming also Georgia and much of southern Alabama and Mississippi. The first white person known to have lived permanently in what is now Fulton County was James Conyers, who bought land from the Creek Indians in 1797. By 1840, there were over 20 different families living in or near present-dayConyers alone due to waves of European immigration during this time period including Scotsmen (Highlanders), Welshmen (Welsh farmers), Germans (from Bavaria), Italians (from Tuscany), Poles (from Lesser Poland) and Czechs (Czechoslovakia). Many people at this time brought with them their own cultures which blended quickly into those around them; many descendants still retain some aspects today such as Gaelic language use among some residents hereabouts as well as Cherokee heritage among others
Conyers was a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It was located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River and had a population of about 1,000 people at the time of its incorporation in 1884. The first post office in Conyers was established on December 10, 1881. The town grew rapidly due to its location and trade opportunities on the river. By 1915, Conyers had a population of 4,554 residents. In 1935, Conyers became one of several towns in the area affected by Hurricane Floyd. Many homes were destroyed and many people lost their jobs as a result of the storm. After Floyd damage was repaired, growth resumed in Conyers until it reached its pre-Floyd size by 1955. The collapse of textile mills in the early 21st century caused significant job losses for locals with no alternatives to employment within walking distance of mills or transportation options available outside town limits
