Conyers, Georgia is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 17,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The town of Conyers dates back to 1801. In 1892 it became a city and in 1957 it joined the metropolitan Atlanta area as one of the original 11 cities in that area. The first settler in what is now Conyers was John Aiken who arrived with his family on November 15, 1801 from Yorktown Island near Norfolk, Virginia. Aiken's wife and two children died soon after landing on what is today Conyers' Main Street. One account reports they were "killed by natives when they endeavored to cross over."9 However another account claims they "were drowned while swimming"10 The settlement around which Conyers grew began as a small farmstead called Hickory Bottom which consisted of just 12 acres (5 ha) along the Chattahoochee River.
