After a year's travel through what is now Alabama and Mississippi on his return journey from Spain, Columbus made landfall on November 12th, 1492 at land he called Hispaniola (now Haiti). This event marked an important turning point in American history because it demonstrated European superiority over native nations and set forth what would become America's primary goal: to establish a permanent presence there so that Europe could control its new arrivals. The early pioneers who trekked across North Carolina into Georgia found abundant natural resources but no easy way to get them home. So hard-pressed were they to make a living that some even resorted to piracy against Spanish vessels looking for passage back homeward. However, when General Jackson liberated allof Georgialand from Spanish rule in 1801-2 utilizing scorched earth tactics - eliminating any opposition before withdrawing - progress began again for southeastern Georgialandans within our modern day borders! And so began another era of exploration and settlement when men like John Cartsheworth explored much of today's Alabama and Georgia searching for new routes to India via coastal areas south of Chattanooga! With steamboats making regular trips down rivers into these inland waterways during this time period we can only imagine how comprehensive transportation was then!
In 1692, Spanish explorer and cartographer Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines. Columbus was inspired to explore these new lands after hearing of an oral history of a man named Juan Ponce de León who had landed in Cuba in 1493. He set out on his journey to find this man, which took him many years. In July of 1697, he finally reached the island of Hispaniola, where he met indigenous people and found evidence that there were other land routes to India and China. The next year, he sailed eastward until he reached what is now Java in Indonesia. After reaching this location, Columbus made a landfall on November 12th at Batavia (now Jakarta), which marked the beginning of his long journey home.
