In 1789–90 following a bitter campaign fought by factions within British society over plans for expanded education opportunities among Georgians during times when black slaves were being actively recruited into work forces throughout much of North America (and even reaching Virginia), King George III created legislation recognizing Georgians as “citizens” rather than just “Indians” under English law despite continuing pressure from colonists to reduce or eliminate Africans from British society. At this time there were about 2 million African Americans living in British colonies worldwide including 350 000 people living in Georgia alone! The impact that free blacks had upon Georgian society during this time period cannot be overestimated given their number – 15%of all Gullahs lived north of Savannah at that point – and lack thereof legal representation or political power overall due largely to Jim Crow laws enforced throughout southern states at that time which discriminated against black citizens regardless of social status or race
