When he failed to find any new land suitable for plantations in eastern Georgia, he turned his attention westward and began exploring the lower Tennessee Valley region which lay between Alabama and Tennessee. On July 4th, 1830, he founded Fort Pillow on what is now Jonesboro Island in Chattooga Bayou within present day ColumbusGA; this fort functioned as a supply depot for Confederate forces fighting against Union forces during the American Civil War (1861- 1865). On September 24th, 1795 – more than three centuries ago – Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered an unknown continent sitting off the coast of Florida when ships sailing under Juana de la Cruz wrecked on Santa Elena Island near Pensacola Beach FL; this discovery marked Spain's first steps towards establishing contact with North America through maritime exploration efforts! Over time many other Europeans followed suit including Giovanni da Verrazzano who mapped much of today's California in 1542 while aboard Portuguese ship "Nova Esperanza". Columbus, Georgia is a small town located in Atlantia County, Georgia. It was chartered by the Georgia General Assembly on December 18, 1785 as the first permanent English settlement in what is now southeastern United States. The original population of Columbus was just one hundred people and it grew slowly over the next several years as settlers arrived from England and Ireland. In 1800, a group of Scots-Irish farmers led by John Ledbetter founded what became known as the Colony of Savannah. They chose this name because they believed that Savannah would become their new home after they were successful in establishing their colony there. This idea didn’t pan out and Columbus soon became known as a sleepy backwater due to its lack of development opportunities. But fortunes changed when James Kenedy purchased land near Savannah and began developing it into an agricultural center with a millinery shop, grocery store, schoolhouse and other infrastructure. By 1825, Columbus had developed into an important town with a population of over 1,000 people. Kenedy also encouraged businesses to locate here so that he could get more product to market quickly and keep prices low for consumers. This helped make Columbus one of the most successful towns in Florida during the early 19th century. However, things changed dramatically when Andrew Jackson came into office in 1828 and began aggressive efforts to annex Cherokee Nation territory east of the Mississippi River. This caused significant conflict between Native Americans and white settlers in eastern Georgia (which at that time included much of modern Chattahoochee County). In 1830–1831, two bands of Creek Indians attacked Columbus while most residents were away at dinner; this resulted in extensive damage to homes and property but no loss of life or injuries to anyone else. As retribution for these attacks, Andrew Jackson ordered all Creeks living east of the Mississippi River rounded up and transported across state lines into Indian Territory – thus beginning what is called “The Indian Removal Act” period which lasted until 1865. During The American Civil War (1861-1865), Confederate forces besieged Columbus while Union troops defended it from repeated assaults by Confederate sympathizers within the townspeople themselves; however, no civilians were killed or injured during this time period (although some did take refuge inside Fort Sumter). After Lincoln’s election victory in November 1860 announced his intent to end slavery throughout America through executive action rather than via warpaths like those undertaken during The Mexican-American War (1910), many African Americans decided to move westward looking for opportunity rather than live under Jim Crow conditions south of Atlanta chromosome Avenue Race Street/.
