Columbus was born on October 12, 1492 in the town of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was the son of Christopher Columbus and Isabela Montero. When Columbus was just twelve years old, his family moved to Spain to live with his father. However, when Columbus learned about the lucrative trade opportunities in America, he set off on a three-year journey in search of India and Asia. In 1495, he reached Spain and reported his findings back to his father. After hearing from his son, Ferdinand Magellan sailed into America looking for Christopher Columbus but never found him. On January 8, 1500, after sailing for over two months without sighting land or any sign of life other than a small island they called San Salvador (now Islay), they finally discovered human beings living among them and began disembarking their ships to explore this new land. After landing on what is now Puerto Rico on July 24th 1502 with his crew of thirteen men including himself and naming it Isla de la Gloria (Island of Grace), he began construction of a vessel that would take him further eastward into unknown territory. The expedition's second ship named San Salvador also went ashore but broke down en route so Columbus decided to stay behind with only two companions– an Indian boy and an Australian sailor named John Cabot–and return home by boat in September 1502. However upon arrival at Seville he discovered that all along the way there had been no Indians but only Spanish settlers who had mistaken him for one! He thus became one of the first Europeans known to have ventured into North America! Although many people thought that exploration was foolish because there were no valuable resources waiting to be discovered in America instead thereof being populated by simple natives like himself (he had landed here twice before!), Christopher Colombus made a valiant attempt even though most everyone believed him crazy! Eventually he returned with reports that there were significant rivers leading westward towards Mexico City where much treasure could be found if someone could find it! With these reports coming back positive King Ferdinand ordered more exploration and soon afterChristopher Colombo's tombstone was erected near Madrid – commemorating this important event in American history!

In recent years, the city has experienced a resurgence in its economy thanks to investment from businesses such as Amazon, Googleplex and Coca-Cola Company.

In 1864, during the American Civil War, Atlanta was sacked by Union troops under General Sherman and grew into an American city full of slavery and poverty. However, following Reconstruction in 1868–1871, which aimed to reopen black Atlantans' opportunities after years of white rule through Jim Crow laws, Atlanta became one of the most integrated cities in America.
