This pattern continued until after World War II when African Americans left Southern states for northern ones because of discrimination laws enacted after that war

The first Europeans to set foot on what is now Columbus, Georgia were the Spanish in 1513. They named the area Santa Cruz de la Florida after Saint Christopher, patron saint of Spain. The area was part of Alta Florida until 1763 when it became part of Cuba.
