But all good things must come to an end...and so did the Gold Rush era in Georgia when prices for gold started dropping precipitously around 1830. In fact, many Georgians went bankrupt trying to buy up pieces of their country's once-promising mineral fortunes! By 1840 only 1 percent of Georgians still lived within easy reach of mining operations!
