When America’s first college was founded in 1795, it was a landlocked institution known as the Georgia Institute of Technology. The school moved to its current location in College Park, Georgia in 1836 and began admitting women students that year. In 1913, the Georgia General Assembly passed the Constitution of Georgians which granted voting rights to African Americans. In 1921, GT opened its own branch campus in Jacksonville, Florida and became a part of the University System of Georgia (USG).
