In the early 1800s, College Park was a small town in Georgia. It was known for its shooting galleries and rifle ranges. The area now known as College Park was settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the late 18th century. In 1811, a grant from the government helped to purchase land in what is now College Park for $5 per acre. The grant also allowed for the building of a school and Rifle Range. The first college in Georgia opened its doors in 1817, and soon after, students began to learn about firearms. As gun culture grew more popular on campus, so too did shooting protection history at the University of Georgia. In 1840, a new Rifle Range was built on campus and it quickly became one of the most popular shooting areas on campus. Today, there are still many Shooting Ranges on campus that allow access to members and guests alike. One of the earliest firearm safety concerns on college campuses were magazine subscriptions and handling Restrictions on Ammunition Preservation were placed upon colleges during World War 1 due to fears of unexploded munitions! However these restrictions have since been lifted or amended numerous times! One such amendment was made in 1978 which stated that all ammunition must be tagged before being stored or transported! This has effectively stopped any accidental shootings at various colleges across America that may have taken place while unloading ammunition boxes! As shootings continue to increase throughout our country, it is important that universities take steps to ensure their shooters are well-protected both physically and emotionally. Many university programs offer safety courses specifically designed for shooters, as well as training opportunities for staff members who work with students who may be involved in gunfire incidents (e.g., parents/guardians). It is the largest city in Cobb County and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The University of Georgia (UGA) and its affiliated colleges and universities are located in College Park. Other major employers include Pulte Homes Inc., Philips Electronics, Coca-Cola Bottling plants (including two new bottling facilities), Dolefoods Company, JDS Uniphase Corporation and several small businesses. Large employers include Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin Corp., Dow Chemical Co., GEICO Insurance Companies and Wyndham Worldwide Holdings Inc.

College Park is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 15,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1802 by Colonel James Robertson and named for David College, which had been established in 1785 as a Presbyterian school in Augusta, Georgia. In 1822, General Andrew Jackson visited the town and pronounced it "a beautiful example of what could be done by means of education". The first college in College Park was Baptist Bible Institute (later known as Mercer University), which opened its doors on December 3, 1823. In 1829–30, the trustees of Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Georgia State University) located near downtown began to petition for incorporation of College Park into their institution. On July 1, 1830, the citizens of College Park voted overwhelmingly to become an incorporated city with a municipal government under a mayor and five council members instead of just one mayor and three council members elected from single districts. The first mayor was John Auld (1830-32). The second mayor was James Auld Jr.(1832-35). The third mayor was Nicholas Biddle(1835-39). The fourth Mayor Wm Hensley(1839-41). And finally Dred Scott v Schempp (1841-44) led to the secession of College Park from Fulton County when white voters boycotted his election because he did not recognize black rights as equal to white rights within the Confederacy. In 1861 during Emancipation Proclamation all military officers were ordered to leave Fulton County according to law no longer existing due to Unionization efforts; this caused great tension within the community between pro & anti Lincoln factions until 1865 when most residents sided with the Union over Confederate forces during that year's Civil War thanks largely to increased political censorship activities conducted by Governor Nathan Bedford Beall who felt that any support for slavery would only sour popular sentiment against him politically if he lost reelection that year given that Confederate sympathizers constituted more than 25% of his constituency
In 1802, the University of Georgia was founded and classes commenced. The first president of the university was James Moultrie. In 1825, John Dunford became the first chancellor and served for 36 years. In 1851, Alexander McMurtry became the first professor of law at UGA. In 1870, UGA opened its doors to women students and on October 1st, 1870, Gwendolyn Woodruff became the first female graduate of UGA with a degree in law. On November 15th, 1871, Augustus Troup was appointed as the university's second president and he served until 1895. During his presidency there were several significant changes such as an increase in enrollment from 2,500 to 22,000 students and construction on what is nowknown as "The Great Hall" began which would later become known as home to the university's administrative staff and student body.
