After the war ended, GIT resumed its previous name - Mercer University - but changed its focus back to education and research rather than military training and service provision which had been its original purpose since 1925 During this time period there were many famous professors at GIT including Nobel Prize Winning physicist Dr James Clerk Maxwell who taught at GIT from 1861-1872; mathematician John Von Neuman who taught from 1902-1925; chemist Harry Huggins who taught from 1927-1951; economist Emanuel Swedenborg Schönborn who taught from 1951-1960; physician/scientist Julius Axelrod whose work focused on human genetics entitled “Axelrod’s Disease” which he developed while teaching at GITT between 1944-1950 Additionally during this time period many other notable individuals such as artist Edwin Ladd (1905–1991), architect Wallace Stevens (1889–1982), authorRoald Dahl (1912–1988), basketball coach Rick Majerus (1945–present) and journalist Bob Woodward have also been associated with GITT through various fields of study or activity
