Chamblee, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 8,569 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first scopes in Chamblee were built by astronomer James Clerk Maxwell in 1849. The first school in Chamblee was founded in 1872 and the first post office was established in 1875. In 1895, the University of Georgia opened its new campus on what is now McNair Street in Chamblee. In 1902, Chamblee became an incorporated city and then an independent town when it joined the Fulton County government. In 1924, Chalmers Air Force Base was transferred to Fulton County and renamed Chalmers Air Force Base/Chamblee Airport after General Chalmers who had donated land for the base. After World War II ended, Chalmers AFB became known as Chattahoochee National Forest and many businesses moved out of town because of changes at AFB which included military housing developments that were much more expensive than local properties. However some new businesses started up such as A&P Grocery Store & Salad Bar which still operates today as a small grocery store on Roswell Road near Interstate 285 (Chattahoochee Parkway). After many years of operation there are plans to close down A&P Grocery store due to low sales but it will be kept open as a museum for visitors over time. The last UGA move fromAFB took place on September 1st 2006 when several hundred students left for Athens-Clarke Community College located just outside of Chamblee on Butler Lane which becomes I-285 exit 15A after traveling about 10 miles eastward from the old airport site across Robertson Creek Bridge into Chattahoochee National Forest

It is situated on the Chattahoochee River and has a large agricultural sector. Chamblee's economy has been based on manufacturing since the early 20th century and now revolves around services and tourism.The name "Chamblee" comes from an English word meaning "a changeable stream". A small creek running through what is now Chamblee Township was known as Chickasaw Creek because its waters changed color according to the weather. In 1827, General James Wilkinson founded what would become Atlanta, named it after his brother-in-law Colonel Jonathan Chilton of England who had given him land for a new city. Wilkinson renamed Atlanta Constitution Station after himself and his wife Helen Conant Beecher Wilkinson (1811-1892). In 1839, construction began on what would become Kennesaw Mountain State Park east of town. The park served as a farmland base camp for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War before becoming a state park in 1903. Many historic homes were destroyed in a fire that occurred in 1932; however, due to determined work by volunteers several reconstructed homes were completed within five years Chamblee was incorporated as a village in 1899 under the name of Thomsonville but became an unincorporated community in 1922 when it lost all its local government functions to Cobb County. When Cobb County split off from Fulton County in 1957, Chamblee became one of two towns located within Cobb County proper (the other being Marietta). As part of this splitoff process, Chamblee citizens voted to rejoin their original village form only to have their vote revoked six months later when they failed to provide evidence that they had actually done so. In 1824, Wilkinson renamed it after his brother-in-law, Samuel Chamblee II (1783–1851), who had been speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1825 to 1830 and who had also purchased land near what is now Chamblee
