Chamblee is a small town in the Georgia Highlands area of metro Atlanta. It is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 15 miles north of downtown Atlanta. The population was 7,878 at the 2000 census. Chamblee is one of two towns in Fulton County (the other being Sandy Springs) that are both included in the Metro Atlanta region and also have their own local newspapers (The Chattahoochee Chronicle and The Gwinnett Journal-Constitution). Chamblee's history goes back to 1788 when General James Oglethorpe founded what is now Chamblee Township. As time passed, Chamblee attracted settlers from all over the Southeast United States, including those who would later form the city of Atlanta. By 1847, Chamblee had become an agricultural community with a sawmill and gristmill on its banks. In 1875, Chamblee became part of Cobb County when it was formed from portions of Fulton and DeKalb Counties. In 1906, Chamblee amalgamated with neighboring Sandy Springs to create one municipality under the name "ChamBLEE". That year saw a significant increase in development as businesses opened up along I-285 and Uptown Boulevard in central ChamBLEE. This period also marked a beginning for ChAMBLEE's growth as a bedroom community for downtown Atlanta residents; by 1920,chamBLEE had outgrown its original boundaries and become an urban center with its own shopping mall and public library

Chamblee is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 20,811 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is named after Captain James Chamblee who served in the American Revolution as a captain and aide-de-camp to General George Washington. The first settler in Chattahoochee County was John Chalfant, who arrived on a small boat in 1786. In 1807, Samuel Hood built an cabin on Chattahoochee River where he later founded Chattahoochee School which became one of the largest cotton schools in America. In 1836, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest chose this location for his new plantation called "Fernald" or "Fords". The City of Chamblee was incorporated on December 14, 1837 by act of the Georgia General Assembly under the name of "Chattahoochee". In 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee's army stopped at this site while marching through central Georgia en route to join Ulysses S Grant's army near Chattanooga. A Union artillery brigade landed here during the battle of Chickamauga when Confederate artillery fire caused Major General John Custer to order his unit back across the river and into reserve about two miles away. Aftermath: More than 400 men were killed and more than 500 wounded; over 1/3 million rounds were fired during that fight." Pioneering farmers such as John Chalfant and Samuel Hood laid down what are now some of Georgias most famous roads - Highway 98 (the old road from Savannah to Athens)and Highway 27 (the old highway from Chattanooga to Decatur). These early pioneers helped shape what would become Chamblee today with their hard work and dedication to farming and family values that has continue unchanged up until today."
