Chamblee is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is the county seat of Fulton County. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Chamblee was Captain John Smith on his ill-fated voyage in 1607. When he reached the Chattahoochee River, he named it "Cumberland" after the English province of Cumberland in England where he had been living for some time before his voyage. thereafter, Chamblee became known as "Chamblee". In 1802, a post office was established at Chamblee and remained in operation until 1893. In 1821, General James Ewell moved from Cumming to take command of Army forces besieging Mobile Bay and decided to move southward along the Chattahoochee River into what is now Fulton County. He selected this location because it bordered on then-Alabama and his men were able to build their own Fort Ewell here by September 25, 1821 (the date that Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest chartered present day Chatham Heights). On December 7th, 1825, when Georgia become a state, Chamblee citizens voted not to secede from Alabama but join with that state instead due to fears of an all out war between Alabama and Georgia should they do so. The vote amounted to only 8% of the total population against secession but it nonetheless signified an important deviation from plantation society which required unanimity among its residents for any significant decisions affecting them both politically and materially - something which did not always happen even when states did secede from each other during times of political unrest or economic strife (as occurred with Louisiana following its admission into the United States in 1863). What followed was a series of skirmishes between Confederate forces loyal to Jefferson Davis and federal troops led by Major General Sidney Johnston over several months leading up until Confederate defeat at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865; this ended Reconstruction in America as well as globally across all levels of society - including those living within slaveholding countries such as Africa - thereby marking the end of white supremacy throughout much OFA soil area including many rural areas such as those located around Atlanta today where African Americans continue working second class jobs despite being subject to Jim Crow laws like employment discrimination etc... . Given this history one would think that things would have changed quite a bit since then especially given that most African Americans who have lived within ZIP codes within Atlanta proper have experienced very little if anything positive either economically or socially however such are not necessarily true trendslines considering rates of crime are consistently higher among poor black communities regardless of whether they reside inside or outside ATLMPSU limits...
