In Chamblee, there are two full-time gun magazine dealers that have been around since 1857: The Armoury Research Store & Museum and The Shotgun Shop. These stores provide customers with access to over 350 firearms including pistols, shotguns, rifles, shotguns ammunition, and more. The Armoury Research Store & Museum was founded in 1857 by Captain John Suggs who had acquired some firearms from British troops stationed in Mobile Bayou. Captain Suggs wanted to make sure his citizens were able to own and use these weapons safely so he started stocking rifle ammunition as well as pistols and revolvers at his store. Today the armoury features over 100 items including handguns, shotguns, rifles, ammo, swords/knives/axes etc., all made from fine NRA Certified stainless steel materials. The Shotgun Shop was established in 1915 by Abe Slatkin who worked at Jiffy Lube across the street from where he now operates The Shotgun Shop Ltd. Abe Slatkin decided that instead of just selling guns he should also sell shotgun shells which became very successful due to its low cost per shell compared to other products on the market at the time (approximately $1 per cartridge). After 20 years of operation Abe Slatkin sold his business in 1978 to Donnybrook Arms Corporation which continues operations today under the name Donnybrook Shotgun Manufacturing Incorporated with headquarters located in Chamblee Township within Fulton County Government Buildings on State Route 316 South next door to IGA Supermarket). In recent times both these businesses have experienced major renovations; first taking place in 2006 when Donnybrook Firearms reopened after a 50 year absence following previous fire damage; followed by another renovation project completed earlier this year which included new flooringation and additions such as an additional retail space for sale as well as research areas for guests visiting our company during museum hours (Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm; Saturday 10am - 3pm). Chamblee was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1821. The town name derived from an Indian word meaning "to cross over." The first European to landfall in what is now Chamblee was Captain John Smith on July 16, 1795. He named it after his home village of Kilwinning in Scotland. On November 5, 1821, the first permanent settler arrived in what is now Chamblee Township: James McMurry and his family. They were the first white people to live within its limits. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a major route between Athens and Savannah and its easy access to water supplies and transportation links. By 1830, Chamblee had a store, schoolhouse, post office and two churches: First Presbyterian and Methodist (later Baptist). In 1840 Chamblee had seven dwellings with a total population of eighty-four residents; by 1860 this number had grown to one hundred thirteen residents. In 1865 local farmer Jno Persons opened the first grain elevator in Chattahoochee County; it became prominent as an early player in the cotton industry throughout Georgia. By 1870 Chamelle's citizens numbered five hundred fifty-six; by 1910 their number had swollen to two thousand four hundred thirty-seven residents During World War II many businesses closed due to wartime shortages of materials but most notably Chamelle's large munitions plant which produced shells for Allied forces during the war . After the war many businesses reopened including Chamelle's largest grocery store still running today as well as other small businesses that have continued into recent years such as dry goods store (closed since 2006), automotive parts store (closed since 2003), chalet restaurant/bars (closed 2002) Today Chamblee has developed into a vibrant community with several popular bars and restaurants along with galleries/crafts stores including a new arts museum being built nearby
Chamblee was a small town in central Georgia, founded in 1837 by men from the nearby town of Duluth. The town had only about fifty residents when it first came to be settled, but within a few years it had become an important center for cotton production and commerce. Chamblee's main commercial district was located on the convergence of two valleys, one running along the north side of the town and another running along the south side. The two valleys formed a natural crossing point which allowed goods travelling up or down either valley to be unloaded and unloaded again at a single stop, making Chamblee one of the most heavily developed towns in central Georgia. The original buildings in Chamblee were built primarily for agricultural purposes, but over time they became more and more associated with cotton production. By 1860 Chamblee had outgrown its agricultural capabilities and began to build larger buildings for industry. One such building was the Chenault-Lamar House (now known as the Lanier House), which was built in 1861 byCapt. James Lamar. The Lanier House is still used today as a commercial property in Chamblee.
