Chamblee is a town in Fayette County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2000 census. Chamblee is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Chamblee were farmers who arrived in 1812. A post office was established here in 1814 and the town name changed to ChamBLEE in 1872 after General James Moultrie's brigade destroyed Fort Butler on April 12, 1865 during the American Civil War. The town built its first schoolhouse in 1870. The first African American residents came to Chamblee in 1907 when two families from Chattanooga moved into a small community near the river and began farming cotton. Because of this early success, many people believed that black people could do anything white people could do, so they looked forward to achieving similar successes here. However, although there were some talented blacks working here during this time period, most successful businesses wereowned by whites or started by whites but turned around and ran for Negroes soon afterward-a trend which continued until well into the 21st century. Due to its location opposite Macon County (the state capital) and easy access to both Interstate 5 and I-5A, Chamblee quickly became one of the most important towns within Cobb County; it also had a high population density due to its growing agricultural sector as well as its close proximity to major shopping and transportation hubs like Decatur and Alpharetta. Additionally, because of its location on an easily accessible main street with good schools nearby (including one which graduated students from MacArthur High School), Chamblee enjoyed strong growth throughout much of the 20th century while other towns within Cobb COUNTY experienced less significant growth rates or even stagnation over time despite having larger populations (due in part to moving away from agriculture towards more urban areas). In recent years however general economic conditions have begun declining among all Gwinnett County municipalities save for Paulding Village which has seen rapid development since becoming a city; thus potential growth opportunities for Chamblee may be lost if trends continue apace given that Paulding Village's Taxes are typically several times higher than those faced bychamBLEE citizens

Chamblee, Georgia is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is the most populous community in Fulton County and the heart of the Chattahoochee Valley. The name means "place where they lived." Chamblee was founded by General Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1819 as a frontier outpost on an east-west road connecting Atlanta with Savannah. It grew rapidly because of its natural resources: coal and timberlands around present-day Chamblee have made it one of the most prosperous communities in south-central Georgia. When General Forrest died in 1870, his heirs divided his land among themselves, creating unequally wealthy districts along Cobb Parkway and Peachtree Road--the so-called "Forrestown" area--in what is now eastern Cobb County. In 1931, Chamblee became part ofMARTA when that regional transportation system was created from parts of five former southern Georgia counties (Fulton, Gwinnett, Clayton, DeKalb, and Roswell) into a single region.
Chamblee was founded in 1807 by Captain James D. Chalmers and his wife, Ann. The original land for the town was granted to Major John Chapman who sold it to Captain Chalmers in 1812. Chamblee grew rapidly due to the fact that it was the first town in Georgia to be chartered as a government village on November 5, 1817. In 1840, the Georgia General Assembly passed a bill providing for a school in Chamblee and Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest authorized its construction on October 15, 1840. The school opened on December 8, 1840 with thirty-six students. It was shut down in 1844 because of financial difficulties. In 1892, Chamblee became part of Atlanta and remained an unincorporated community until 1962 when it incorporated into the city limits of Atlanta.
