Chamblee, Georgia is a small town located in the southeast corner of Fulton County, Georgia. It is bordered to the north by Roswell and to the east by Sandy Springs. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. Chamblee was founded in 1853 as a farming community on the Chattahoochee River. In 1875, it became an incorporated city. The community's name comes from an Indian word meaning "humble place." The original settlers were part of the Cherokee Nation and their language has been used in Chamblee since its founding. The town's early residents were farmers who raised corn, peanuts and other crops. After World War II, Chamblee began to experience rapid growth as a bedroom community for Atlanta. In 1990, it became an independently incorporated city again. Today Chamblee continues to be a small town with strong agricultural roots that have produced many notable residents over the years including Mayor Johnnie Yarborough (1926-2007), Reva Greenlaw (1925-2015) and Dr. Bennie Greene (1884-1966). The Chamblee Arts Festival celebrates local artistry every October since 1978 with more than 100 artists exhibiting their work in downtown Chamblee and throughout surrounding rural communities during two days of music and art Valley events annually

Chamblee was founded in 1821 by George Chamblee and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for Captain John Chamblee, who had fathered a child with an enslaved woman in Georgia. Chamblee donated land to the town and built the first school, which he also served as the town's mayor. In 1840, Chamblee married Anna Maria Swinney and moved to Decatur, Alabama. He died there in 1851. In 1865, Chamblee became aethylene glycol producer when he patented a process for producing this type of liquid fuel from natural gas. This company later merged with other companies to become Chevron Corporation. The town has since been abandoned and most of the buildings have been torn down or replaced by development projects.

In 1847, John Chamblee and his brother James founded a cotton plantation in what is today the town of Chamblee. The Chamblees continued to operate their farm until 1881.
