Cedartown is a small town in Lawrence County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Cedartown is located on the western edge of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town's original name was Crawfordville and it was founded by Welsh colonists in 1784. The name change came about because of heavy Scottish immigration during that time. In 1814, when Lawrence County was formed from portions of Fulton and Gwinnett counties, Cedartown became part of the new county. Cedartown first saw regular settlement by Scots-Irish settlers in 1825. By 1830, there were about 50 people living in the town; by 1840, there were over 300 residents. The main business activity in early years had been farming and ranching but after 1800 local mills began operate to supply nearby towns with cottonseed oil and flour for local breadmaking purposes only (the first mill being built in 1827). With rapid growth around 1900 due to railroad transportation along the route from Chattanooga to Atlanta (and later via Norfolk Southern Railway), industry took center stage in Cedartown as well; businesses include a bank (1893), grocery store (1910), discount store (1930), auto parts store (1945) and hospital (2005). In 1954, when Lawrence County consolidated with other counties within Georgia, Cedartown lost its charter as a separate municipality; however, it still retains some municipal functions such as zoning and fire protection services under a separate board of commissioners while also remaining a bedroom community for Lawrence County residents with limited access to outside amenities such as restaurants or shopping malls. There have been several attempts over the years to revive the idea of annexing Cedartown into neighboring municipalities including one led by then-Mayor Sonny Perdue which failed after opposition from many quarters including most resident's club who felt they would lose more services than they would gain since their taxes would go directly into service coffers of new municipalities instead of their own pockets; however annexation has been considered again in recent years but no definitive plans have surfaced yet

Cedartown was founded in 1778 by Colonel James Robertson and his wife, Catharine. The town was named for the Cedars (a large tree-like tree) that grew near the original settler's home. The first post office in Cedartown was established in 1812. In 1827, the community acquired its own schoolteacher, Mrs. Hargrave. By 1870, there were over 100 residents in Cedartown. In 1880, a railroad line arrived in Cedartown and soon after, businesses opened up around the station to provide economic growth and development for the townspeople. In 1911, Cadet Thomas Cook served as U.S. Ambassador to Russia during World War I; he is credited with helping popularize American culture in Russia and improving relationships between America and Russian Federation. After Cook's visit, many of the businesses closed down because of increased competition from abroad; however, some reopened shortly afterwards thanks to new investment from outside of town. In 1938, at the onset of World War II, Cedartown saw an influx of refugees following the outbreak of war; this led to an increase in population density which also caused several businesses to close down as people tried to find ways to make money while they waited out the war years. However, within a few months after hostilities ended things had completely changed with most businesses being re-opened thanks to wartime donations from locals and visitors alike! CedartOWN has remained a vibrant community throughout its history with numerous cultural events taking place year-round - including Art Festivals & Market Days every May/June/, music festivals every October/November/, Harvestfest on Thanksgiving weekend/, Christmas parties every December/January/, etc... It's definitely clear that despite changes over time it has always been an amazing place where families come together and enjoy all that life has gotto offer!
Cedartown is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1799 by Captain John Wesley Shorter and his wife Sarah. Cedartown became a county seat in 1802 and remained so until 1905 when it was moved to Decatur.
