Cedartown, Georgia is a small town in central Georgia on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first scopes were made in Cedartown by George Ritchie in 1827. A few years later, he started making telescopes for sale to other farmers and traders. In 1841, Ritchie built his own scopes factory in what is now the Cedartown Historic District. The first telescope was a refractor with two lenses that looked out of a window at objects up to 100 feet away. In 1846, David Keith foundedKeith's Observatory in Cedartown and began selling telescopes and observatory equipment to farmers and others across rural Georgia. By 1850, Keith had built an observatory complete with its own 4-meter telescope which became known as the "Great American Telescope." In 1892, Edwin Hubble developed the theory of general relativity which allows us to see things that were previously too far away for visible light microscopy or radar observations. Upon hearing this news, many people from all over Georgia came to see Hubble's new instrument at Keith's Observatory on Old Druid Hills Road in Cedartown! They were so excited about this new discovery that they camped outside until 5 PM every night for months!

In 1845, a man named George F. Cauthen saw the potential for scopes in an exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History. With a grant from the Smithsonian Institution, he founded Cauthen & Co., which became one of the most famous telescope manufacturers of its day. Over time, Cauthen's company developed some of the most popular and successful telescopes in history – including the 20-inch Aperture National Telescope and NASA's Hubble telescope. In addition to their optics and mountings, Cauthen & Co. also manufactured an array of scientific instruments, including seismographs, tomography equipment, and bacteriological probes.
The first scopes were developed in the early 1400s by Italian optics manufacturer, Giovanni da Verona. These scopes used small lenses to view objects at a close range and were very sensitive to light.
Cedartown is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,397 at the 2000 census. Cedartown is home to the Cedartown Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The town has a mix of English and Welsh-speaking residents. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cedartown were French traders in 1699. In 1712, General James Wilkinson built a cabin here and named it after himself, Cedartawny (the name of his wife). A new courthouse was built here in 1802 by Judge John Troup. Most of what we know about the early history of Cedartawny comes from oral tradition or local historians who were alive when it happened. In 1827, surveyor Wm Hogg surveyed this area and named it for Captain William Hogg (1795-1868), one of the founders of Macon County (now Georgia). Captain Hogg had been part of Colonel Hugh Lawson's ill-fated expedition against Seminole Indians in 1824. Lawson's men destroyed most of Hogg's plantation near present day Athens before finally reaching their destination safely beyond Indian territory on July 9th, 1827; however they lost almost all their equipment including cannons and horses and only lasted six days before being driven back by superior numbers led by Chief Osceola with the help of Seminole scouts under Treecrest Hillock: "Higgstown" refers to an observation point above Clearwater Creek where Colossal rock formations called "Treecrest Hillock," still visible today from HWY 21 exit 10A just south off I-75 east are located according to some local historians...[Captain] William Hogg’s loss at 'Higgstown' may have been more than £400 worth not having any cannon or ammunition." 2 years later Captains James Dillard and George Barbour also explored this region but did not find anything significant so returned home without making any further claims for land around this area until 1830 when they both founded Macon County seat at Milledgeville which became known as Dahlonega after them both families moved there permanently In 1840 Confederate General Robert Ewell took up arms against the United States during the American Civil War while living in nearby Atlanta; he eventually surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 becoming one of two Confederate generals surrendering that day along with general Joe Hooker During Reconstruction following Reconstruction era events that followed African Americans regained full civil rights beginning on February 22nd 1870 African Americans began to remove themselves gradually from rural areas across America as white mobs began taking direct aim at black people primarily through lynching although sporadic violence persisted throughout these years especially towards women who were often targeted for death or abduction despite various threats madeby white men during these times many women managed to flee into neighboring states such as Alabama where they lived until => 1950 when all southern blacks were freed approximately exactly 50 years ago!
Cedartown was founded in 1801 by Major General John H. Robertson. The community grew rapidly due to its natural resources, and by 1820 it had a population of over 400 people. In 1828, the town was renamed for General Andrew Jackson, who had been president at the time. The town experienced some growth during the antebellum period, with increased industry and development coming about as a result of its location on the Gulf Coast. However, after the Civil War Cedartown declined quickly, slowly losing its importance until it ceased to exist altogether in 1870.
