By 1840 there were over 100 residents in Cedartown with nearly fifty businesses including three banks, ten churches, fourteen schools (grades K-12), five hotels/motels, twelve farmhouses/cattle ranches, two cotton mills (oneowned by Gadsden Manufacturing Company & oneowned by Southern Railway), six miles of railroad track running through it which produced more than 400 tons of cotton per day,—thousands upon thousands of dollars' worth—and seven miles of pipeline carrying water to various properties within the community! When American Civil War began in 1861 without warning or declaration from either side, most people living within Confederate territory chose to stay put rather than flee their homes for unknown reasons however about 10%–15% chose to leave for Rome or other major cities inside Union lines however all communications between these areas were cut off so no way could news get back home to help those who had chosen not to fight . About sixty people from CedartowntOWN decided to migrate westward along I-85 when that route became available but only made it as far as Rome before being turned back due to high costs associated with travel eastward plus food shortages caused especially among newly arrived soldiers fresh off their enlistments . As result few if any individuals remain traceable throughout history with most events taking place during or immediately following World War II when many people returned home after serving in Japan Today much has changed since Cahaba Heights Road served as an agricultural crossroad years ago where families gathered eggs from chickens kept inside while they hunted cattle outside until dinner time then took turns walking across country back roads leading up into Cahaba Hills towards their homes until bedtime then children would go out playing on dirt roads leading down into the woods near creek crossings until morning brightened up with another day ahead .
