Cedartown, Georgia is located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. The town was founded by General James B. Wakefield in 1838 and named for him. The population of Cedartown was 1,554 in 1950. It has since shrunk to 614 people, but it remains a thriving community with a rich history. The town was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in the area during the early 1800s. They were engaged in subsistence farming and hunting and fishing until they developed a large trade with nearby Raleigh and other southern settlements. Afterward, the Irish began to take up manufacturing as well, contributing significantly to the growth of Cedartown over time. As industry grew more important to the local economy, so too did social stability within the community. This led to an increasing number of Catholics coming to Cedartown from Northern Ireland starting around World War I; this helped contribute to stable neighborhood dynamics that continue today. The post-World War II years saw burgeoning commercial activity throughout Cedartown; however, its largest single contributor has been its tourism industry which has seen significant growth over recent decades (particularly since 2008). Today’s Cedartown is home to many interesting historical attractions including General James B Wakefield National Battlefield Park (a park dedicated entirely to celebrating American military veterans), several shopping complexes as well as several restaurants and bars catering mainlyto visitors from outside of Georgia/North Carolina/Virginia/West Virginia etc..

Cedartown is a small town in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Chattahoochee River near Decatur and Roswell. The community was founded by white settlers in 1821 as Cedarta Township. When the railroad came through the area in 1847, they named it Cedartown after Captain John Cedarta of the Georgia Regiment who had been instrumental in building the line. The first post office was established in 1852 and remained open until 1907. The first settler to live in Cedarta Township was James Burtis, who arrived around 1830 from England with his family. He built a cabin on what is now east side of mile marker 12 on today's route 71 south of town. In 1841, he married Sarah Cunningham and they started a home-based farm that produced corn, milk, eggs and butter for local residents and sold produce from their farm to nearby farmers. In 1851–1852 Captain John Cedarta purchased land adjacent to present day Cedartown from Jno Alexander Brown for $1 per acre (the price had not changed since before President George Washington bought 1/3 of all Cherokee Nation land). Captain John then proceeded to plat his own land which included what is now east side of mile marker 12 on today's route 71 south of town; this property would later become known as "Cedartown". Captain John's Donation Property laid out into blocks with 3 lots: one or two acres for each householder who contributed money towards its purchaseotto maintain it; these lots were corner lot style with deep front driveways leading up to them (later became homes). The earliest house still standing within our walls date back to this time period – it may be located behind #2 home currently occupied by Mrs.? Woods across 3 yards due west from original groundbreaking site - active circa 1800’s when we moved here! This very early pioneer farmstead has been through many hands over ensuing years including being purchased by Paulding & Marshall Railroad Co., Incorporated; it again passed thru several hands becoming part of First National Bank Cemetery Site where current church stands today prior finally passing thru our occupancy 9/24/1920! Finally during WWII when community experienced some horrendous bombing during World War II most structures within limits were demolished but 16 century+ oldtimersudedanternetwiredinscriptionabovehouseintheChurchyardwhichstill remain’
Cedartown was founded in 1800 by Captain John Stephens and his family. The first post office was established in 1801, and the first store opened in 1802. The townspeople built a church and school in 1804. In 1807, Cedartown became the county seat of Covington County. The courthouse was erected in 1812, and the jail was built in 1814. The town annexed to Athens Township on February 15, 1850. On November 1, 1860, Athens Township repealed its incorporation into Cedartown due to a lack of support from the population. In 1893, Cedartown voters approved a referendum that proposed annexing portions of Chattahoochee County to form a new city called Atlanta. However, Atlanta never formed because of problems with financing and development.
