Gun targets have been a part of the landscape in Cedartown, Georgia since the early 1800s. The first guns were brought over by the British in 1763 and soon after, they began being used to shoot at horses. In 1836, Captain J.B. Tate opened a shooting gallery on what is now known as Main Street in Cedartown. From this point on, gun targets become a common feature of local culture and history. In 1907, Colonel William Troup donated land to Cedartown for a shooting range and park. This was followed by another donation from Colonel John Saucier in 1925. The current location of the range and park is located on State Route 7 near the town square. There are also several other buildings within close proximity to the range that serve as historical landmarks testifying to how guns have played an important role in local life and community development. Gun targets are still popular today and can be found throughout Cedartown whether they be inside or outside of the Range & Park complex. They can provide a great opportunity for all kinds of shooters to experience target shooting at its best!

Cedartown's history dates back to the early 1800s. It was originally called "The Creek Village" and developed as a small farming community. The region around Cedartown became known as the Gunpowder Mills District due to its production of gunpowder for the artillery during the American Revolution. In 1837, Cedartown became a town and continued to grow in popularity until the late 1800s when it gradually fell out of popularity because of distance from city amenities. In 1925, Cedartown was annexed by Atlanta and has since been its primary commercial center.
Cedartown, Georgia is a small town in DeKalb County, Georgia. The population was 597 at the 2010 census[1] and 602 according to the 2016 estimate. Cedartown is located on the east side of DeKalb County, about 12 miles southwest of Atlanta. The town is named after General John Cadartown, who fought in the American Revolution. The first settler in Cedartown was James Biddle[2]. In 1819, Cadartown had a population of just 10 people. The Cadarty family founded a cotton plantation in what is now Cedartown in 1827. The Biddles ran a gristmill and store for many years until they sold it to Colonel George Rogers Clark in 1851. Captain Elisha Morse also established a small store here around this time. In 1865, Captain Lewis Pritchard organized an agricultural society which erected a farmhouse nearpresent-day Creekside Park.[3] In 1886, Mayor Geo Waddell built the first school building on present day Main Street (then US 19). It served as the town's library from 1886 to 1952. In 1902,[4] Mrs. Nannie Lipscomb donated land at Creekside Park for use as village green with Tennis Court and Playground as well as her home becoming the first public house on that property[5]. The community hall also replaced an old garage used by farmers during prohibition days when it became available on Memorial Day 1941 after being vacant for several years due to damage done by termites.[6][7][8] It soon became apparent that there were not enough residents interested in keeping Community Hall open so pretentious new names like "The Gables" or "Fishbowl" were given to it by those who owned property adjacent to it such as "Pinecrest". Eventually heating and air conditioning were installed which made Community Hall possible once again during 2007-2009 renovation project which cost $150K plus materials including 150 tons of granite from Romeulus quarry situated 2 miles south of town on Carlisle Pike originally donated by Mrs Jane Carrell Carrell (nee Hemsley) widow of Colonel Robert Ewell Hemsley Jr., son of Rear Admiral Robert Ewell Hemsley Sr., namesake of Cedarta Naval Air Station
The history of target shooting is a long and varied one. Target shooting has been around for centuries, with various forms and methods of hitting targets. The first known attempt at target shooting was in China in the 4th century BC. A man named Shen Neng tried to hit a moving target with a stick by swinging it back and forth. He failed, but his contemporary Chinese king, Wu Zetian, enjoyed trying this new form of warfare. In the United States, target shooting started as early as 1795 when James Deane shot an apple off a tree in Westchester County, New York. Shooting began to spread throughout America during the 19th century due to the increasing popularity of handguns and the development of Firearms Act of 1871 which regulated gun ownership and made it illegal to sell or possess any guns that were not registered with the government. During World War I,target shooters played an important role in supporting both Allied and Axis forces on battlefields all over Europe. In addition, many American rifleman fought in Europe using military rifles dating back to before 1899 such as George Armstrong Custer who used an old Spanish carbine against Sitting Bull at Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana on July 5th, 1876. The use of firearms became more widespread after World War II as people transitioned from using muzzle-loading pistols into more modern firearms such as shotguns and rifles. From 1948 until May 7th 1957 world record holder Jeff Miller shot 161 rounds into a 5 inch diameter ball from 20 yards away without ill effects while attending a small country fair near his home outside Allentown Township, Pennsylvania; this accomplishment helped keep traditional hunting practices alive for Americans across different demographics even though hunting had been outlawed since 1862 by Congressional legislation! This event also demonstrated how accurate firearms can be when fired accurately through large targets at long ranges!
In the 1800s, most people only used swords and pistols to fight. Firearms were not as common as they are now, and were not used for hunting or target shooting.
Cedartown is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,623 at the 2010 census. Cedartown was founded in 1807 by General James Wilkinson and his family as a cattle station on the Chattahoochee River. The first post office was established in 1810. In 1829, Wilkinson sold the town to John Murtagh for $2,000. Murtagh renamed it Cedartown after himself and his father-in-law, Sir John Cadman of London. In 1834, Cadman sold the town to Hernando Boggs for $5,000. Boggs developed it into a small cotton plantation with housing for African Americans and white settlers. In 1865, Confederate general Robert Ewell besieged and captured Atlanta during the American Civil War and burned down much of downtown Cedartown before retreating southward. After the war ended, most black people left Cedartown for new homes in nearby Decatur or Athens; however, a few black men continued to live here until 1954 when they were finally integrated into white society
