Cedartown is a town in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,023 at the 2010 census. Cedartown is located on the southern border of Cherokee County and is northeast of Athens. It lies within the metro Atlanta area. Cedartown was founded in 1814 by General David Levy as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period because of its natural resources, including coal, timber, cotton, and peanuts. After Reconstruction efforts failed to improve living conditions for African Americans in Georgia, white residents began to move into Cedartown and other black-majority towns in the county. White violence against African Americans increased beginning in 1930s throughinstitutionalized segregation that kept blacks from owning land or working in white businesses. In 1946 Cedartown became an unincorporated community within Cherokee County after it was rezoned from rural to city status by then-County Commissioner John Carter Goode. In 1951 Cedar Valley School District merged with nearby Allatoona School District to form the Gwinnett County Public Schools system; however, Cedartown remained part of Allatoona until 1978 when it rejoined Gwinnett as an independent school district under Superintendent Alvin Brawley's leadership; he served until his retirement in 2001). During this time all but one teacher resigned over poor student discipline policies implemented by Brawley's predecessor—the last teacher to do so being Dianne Kappeler in 1996 after she objected to new rules limiting staff breaks during class hours.). The decline of traditional agriculture throughout much of Gwinnett County led to what has been called "a golden age" for organic produce production starting around 1990s due largely to investments made by local farmers Charlee Glover and her husband Gregg who ran a small grocery store near their home until 2007 when they sold their interest backto the school board which renamed it Glover Farms Market Organic Farm (now known as Midtown Farmers Market). In 1798, Gabriel Paris designed and manufactured what is considered to be the first modern autoloading rifle, called the Musketeer Rifle or Carbine (the recoil operated versions appeared later). This rifle consisted of a stockinged barrelmounted on an elegant walnut stock with adjustable rear sight and four Samson Trigger locks for adjusting fire speed from half-cock to rapid fire mode. The carbine fired live rounds through a muzzle loading system using multiple cartridges inserted into each chamberblock before firing

Cedartown, Georgia is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 9,528 at the 2010 census. Cedartown was named for General James HISTORY OF CEDARTSOWN GA The first people to reside in what is now Cedartown were the Creek Indians who settled in what is now the city of Decatur in 1802. A post office called Cedar Grove was established in 1811, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1870. In 1820, George Pickens founded a trading post called Pickensville on the Chattahoochee River just outside of Cedartown. pickensville served as a stop on the Underground Railroad during the antebellum period. In 1822, Thomas Moultrie purchased land east of present day Cedartown from James Caldwell for $2,000 cash. Moultrie built his plantation known as Old Fort Moultrie which he later sold to John Wilkinson Jr.. In 1830, Wilkinson married Lydia Pickens and moved to Old Fort Moultrie with her. During this time there were three churches – First Methodist Church (founded 1796), Second Methodist Church (founded 1800), and Baptist Church (founded 1803). The first school opened in 1840 and continued until it closed around 1865; however, classes did not begin again until after the Civil War when one teacher taught five students per hour! In 1860s-1870s many people died from cholera pandemic brought over by American slavery ship " CSS Alabama" that had docked at Savannah Harbor while being towed by USS Constitution . One resident of Cedar Grove who contracted cholera said "I felt like I had got hold of death himself." During Reconstruction following America's civil war Little India Presbyterian Episcopal church was constructed near what is now Main Street and Third Street South adjacent to where Confederate general Jubal Early fought during operations at Lookout Hill on November 17th 1863 that resulted in more than 50 killed including General Early himself; Union general Ulysses S Grant ordered an end to such operations due to fears of Communicable Disease . The church still stands today - currently used as a historical museum . After Reconstruction many members of African American families relocated northward into white neighborhoods but some continue living within cedar grove community through traditional black culture
Cedartown, Georgia was founded in 1795 by the Cherokee. The town was named after Captain David Cedartow, who died during the American Revolution. In 1801, the town began to be developed as a cotton plantation center. In 1834, it became a city.
