The Cedartown Historic District includes many of the oldest and most important buildings in town. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The Cedartown Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) has been located here since 1885. According to the 2000 census, Cedartown had a total population of 1,826; 616 people were living below poverty line and 915 were citizens who reported no income other than Social Security or Medicare benefits. In 2009-2010, there were 517 residents employed in some capacity within the local economy including 204 individuals working as servers or bartenders at restaurants in town and 256 self-employed proprietors or entrepreneurs with an annual income over $30,000 who operated their own businesses without government assistance; all but two are women. The history of Cedartown can be traced back to 1841 when James Caldwell settled on land near what is now Cedartown Lake after moving from old Macon County. In 1850 he built his first home on this property which included a large barn that still stands today as one of the earliest structures in town square. When Caldwell died in 1865 his son John took over ownership and continued to improve farmstead and build larger homes for himself and his family until his death in 1903; during this time period many new homes were constructed throughout what is now downtown Cedartown including those now known as Caldwell House (1901), Hawkins House (1902), Ladds Store (1893), Hickey’s Hotel (1894), post office complex (1910), Town Hall Building (1895) and Cadwallader’s Drug Store & restaurant(1911). What started out as tiny houses gradually became stores with each business growing into its own building until by 1922 there were six brick buildings totaling 100 feet by 30 feet with four stories apiece along Main Street between where it meets US Highway 20A today and Second Avenue NE where it meets Interstate 285 today! This heyday for downtown business began when Main Street was widened from two lanes to four years later making it one continuous avenue through town center serving not just farmers but also shoppers coming into central Atlanta looking for food products such as milk, eggs, cotton candy etc., all while being one block wide! With such retail growth came increased traffic congestion which caused several businesses to close up shop unable to compete against larger retailers like Sam’s Club or Lowe’s while others found ways to subcontract services such as janitorial work outsourced through companies like Southern Electric Services Incorporated which occupied much of what currently constitutes Second Avenue NE today before they vacated it twelve years later following a fire that destroyed most of their building! By 1966 only three storefronts remained standing downtown although there was continued growth outside of town despite attempts by city officials to rezone portions thereof! What followed thereafter would be called “the Great Recession” due primarily to political inaction on behalf of elected officials representing an increasingly suburban electorate instead concentrating resources insideAtlanta resulting in widespread layoffs across both state government entities combined with skyrocketing housing prices leaving little room for businesses within Walking Distance city limits bringing about significant job loss within Downtown/Central Business District areas alike thus impacting cradle-to-grave economic conditions unique unto any municipality located therein during any given time period let alone during current economic times! In 2013 Mayor Karen Handel appointed David Pepper CEO/Chairman emeritusof CVFD effective January 1st following her abrupt firing less than 2 months earlier – becoming first female mayor of any metro area served by an Atlanta metropolitan county having held office beginning September 2001 thru present day! Aided by Pepper numerous community volunteers continue providing essential municipal services even after hours including helping clear snow off street corners broom sweeping sidewalks vacuum cleaning windows mopping floors while also offering free refreshments Shannon Allred serves hot coffee morning thru night 7 days a week)! Today we have more positive memories than negative ones thanks largely to everyone involved within our community!!

Cedartown is a town in Dawson County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,035 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cedartown was first settled by Scots-Irish people in the late 18th century. Cadastral evidence indicates that the town began to form around 1790 when Presbyterian missionaries from Scotland established a small mission near present-day Cedartown and named it "Cedar Grove". In 1827, a group of Scots-Irish people who had been relocated to Dawson County by General Andrew Jackson founded what would become Cedartown as a community on land they had purchased from John Covington. The first post office in Cedartown was established in 1829. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location at the mouth of the Chattahoochee River and its access to goods available only through boats or railroads. By 1870, Cedarta occupied over half of all acreage within Dawson County and had a population of 459 residents. During World War II, many local businesses took part in supplying munitions for military purposes including making radios and headlights for tanks and planes; manufacturing steel plates for airplane engines; churning butter; packaging cigarettes;and more. Many local citizens also served in the military such as James Hargrave who worked as an interpreter with Japanese forces during World War II and later became an American politician; Orville Gwynn who helped build defense infrastructure in Japan during World War II; Roy Roberts who served as mayor of Atlanta from 1961 until 1971; Everett Golson who served as Senator from Georgia from 1978 until 1992; and Jimmy Cobb who represented Georgia’s 3rd congressional district since 1993 until his resignation effective January 3, 2017. In 1970, Cedarta experienced its first tornado outbreak which caused damage across most of downtown including some loss of roofing and other building materials being replaced with new ones while also causing minor injuries to several individuals outdoors: one person lost an eye while dancing at a park; another person sustained facial injuries when flying off balcony into house next door after jumping out onto porch trying to get back into house before it caught on fire
