Cedartown, located in Fulton County, Georgia, is home to the world’s first gun magazine. The Cedartown Gunsmith Shop opened its doors on October 16, 1853 and was the first gunsmithshop in America. The shop was located at 810 White Street and published the first issue of the Cedartown Academy Magazine on January 1, 1854. The shop closed in 1861 because of lack of business. In 1865, a machine shop was built adjacent to the GUNSMITH SHOP and it became known as THE MACHINERY SHOP. In 1875, THE MACHINERY SHOP moved out to 2nd Avenue South and became known as THE GUNSHOP. In 1902 THE GUNSHOP moved back to White Street and became known as THE CEDAR TOWNSHIP MAGAZINE CO., LTD. On July 1st, 1912 CEDARTOWN GUNS MAGAZINE CO., LTD., was formed with OFFICERS JAMES WILSON (president) AND WILLIAM BURROWS (vice president). WILLIAM BURROWS resigned from his position on November 15th due to health concerns which led to his death on December 5th; James Wilson assumed presidency until he retirement on May 1st 1913. Cedartown is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1837 as part of the advanced cotton-growing region around Gainesville. The townspeople named their first school after General Andrew Jackson, who hadADDED Cedartown to his state list of counties in 1838. In 1840, the land surrounding Cedartown was donated by Colonel James McMillan and other investors to the town for public use. The first store opened in 1842 and soon became a popular place to buy supplies and groceries. The first post office opened in 1846 and continued serving until it was replaced by the present one in 1865. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Cedartown sided with Confederate forces against Union forces. After the war ended, most of the local businesses closed but a few staying open used their profits to help build new homes for their citizens. In 1907, Cedartown became an incorporated municipality under county ordinance No. 9331-A1 (the "Citizens' Bill"). By that time, however, much of what had once been downtown had been destroyed by fires or redevelopment projects undertaken by developers since its incorporation; only some remnants remain today. On November 3rd, 2017 Cedartown's Mayor David Barber announced plans to annex portions of neighboring city of Dunwoody into CedartOWN pursuant to Section 571(a) of code § 15-2-11 et seq., effective January 1st 2021

The town was founded in 1819 by planters from Georgia and Alabama who named it for General James Cedartown, an American Revolutionary War general. The first store in town was opened by Benjamin Hawkins in 1824. After the Civil War, many of the original settlers moved away or died in the war. In 1865, Confederate general Jubal Early arrived in central Georgia with 10 drummers and 800 men to attack Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant at Missionary Ridge near Dahlonega. Early's force attacked without orders and lost many men and equipment; this led to allegations of misconduct by Grant's commanders against early Confederate leaders such as Early. In 1870, a post office called Cedartown was established and remained in operation until 1907. In 1935, during World War II, Cedartown became one of 137 towns within the United States that participated in the Emergency Plan For Europe (EPFO). The purpose of EPFO was to provide food, clothing and medical supplies to European civilians during wartime while also providing essential services such as education and infrastructure development. Cedartown experienced heavy bombing during World War II but none of its buildings were destroyed; instead they were used as storage or office buildings afterwards. In 1951–1954, when television stations began broadcasting over short waves from various points around Earth using FM modulation technology, Cedartown became one of several communities across America that received live television coverage from local authorities beginning on May 15th 1951 through September 30th 1954; this allowed for continuous monitoring of events occurring throughout North America via telephone lines which then allowed for live reporting back to individual residents throughout those days/hours etc... This unique event remains an example of community engagement with government entities during peacetime today across different types/levels......
